Geohot recommends a “clean” firmware/baseband before you attempt the blacksn0w unlock. So update to 3.1.2 within iTunes before you try the unlock. There are no benefits to the newest baseband firmware. However, once you update to 05.11.07, you will be unable to downgrade to the previous one.
