Amazon Music iOS App Launches Hands-Free Music Listening in Canada, USA

Amazon has debuted a new feature for Prime Music, its included streaming music service for Prime subscribers.

As of today, customers in Canada and the USA can wake Alexa within the Amazon Music iOS (and Android) app by just saying “Alexa”, then saying something like “Play music.” This now turns your iOS device with the Amazon Music app into an Alexa-powered music player.

Customers need to have the Amazon Music app open in the foreground, which will then gain them access to “all of the innovative voice features they use on Echo devices to play music by mood, genre, artist or song title and much more, no searching or browsing required,”, explains Amazon in an email to iPhone in Canada.

To control music, you can just say “Alexa”, then instruct to play, pause or move back and forth between songs and more.

Amazon says hands-free listening within their Amazon Music app “has been one of the top requests” by their customers, with the feature debuting today in Canada and the U.S. The feature can be disabled at anytime within settings in the Amazon Music iOS app.

Last month, Amazon Music for iOS gained the ability to ask Alexa to play music by tapping a button in the app, but as of today that functionality is now hands-free.
