Google Street View Launches for iPhone, Now Available for Download

Google has launched a dedicated Street View app for iPhone and it’s now available for download in the App Store (yes, another Google iOS app). This app allows you to connect directly to spherical cameras, such as Ricoh’s Theta camera series announced today, in essence a way to crowdsource photo spheres.

What’s New in Version 2.0.0
• New app name, “Street View”
• Google’s contributions in Explore and Collections
• Street View map mode for browsing road imagery
• Search
• Connect to spherical cameras
• Private photo sphere sharing
• New imagery and privacy policies

Charles Armstrong, Google Maps Product Manager, said in a statement “The Street View app allows people all over the world to explore user contributions, Google’s own imagery, and their own published photo spheres through a seamless world map of landscapes, landmarks, business interiors and more. The RICOH THETA S is a great tool to create this imagery, and we hope it inspires people to contribute to the map.”

I saw the google street view car roaming around Port Moody a couple days ago.

I’ve been hoping for this for a long time, but much like Facebook Messenger, I wish they could amalgamate into one app! Google Maps + Street View = One app, for example. I guess I’ll file it on the future wish list, along with hoverboards, brown noise generators and iPhones that automatically filter out forum comments from Fandroids! 😀 One can hope!

Why is this a seperate app? didnt even know this one existed.
Much like how they seperated google latitude into a seperate app back in the day.

  • Paul

Standard street view is already available with the google maps app. Not sure why they felt the need to make a separate app for this.

  • T_T ?

I saw the sun set the other day.

  • They’re trying to crowdsource people to upload photo spheres, so this app is specific for that it seems. It’s a renamed app that used to be the Photo Sphere app.
