Quebec Launches ‘Alerte Amber QC’ iPhone App to Send Out Amber Alerts

Quebec has taken steps to launch an Amber Alert iPhone app to alert citizens when child abductions take place. Alerte Amber QC is a free download in the App Store and will provide real time geolocation details when an alert is sent out.

The app is a collaboration between Sûreté du Québec, the RCMP and the City of Montreal Police Department.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety, Lise Thériault said in a statement:

Google Translation:

“Every minute is important when there is a child abduction. More we spread quickly and widely information on the event and the victim, the more we increase our chances of finding the desired children. This new tool is a significant improvement in trigger mode alerts and responds to concerns that I expressed recently following the removal of the small Victoria in Trois-Rivières.”

By harnessing technology and social media, the new app can help authorities crowdsource citizens to be on the lookout when Amber Alerts are sent out, which can also be sent out via text message by signing up here.
