Square Enix Apologizes, Will Fix ‘Deux Ex: The Fall’ Jailbreak Restriction

Yesterday Square Enix debuted their new shooter title Deux Ex: The Fall. The game looks to be a bit except for one issue that affected gamers with jailbroken devices who paid $6.99 for the game–they were unable to fire their weapons.

It appears this move was made to prevent piracy of the game but a PR nightmare emerged for Square Enix, who has now apologized for their communication shortfalls and says a future update will fix the issue for jailbroken devices.

In a statement sent to EuroGamer, the company said:

“We have not been clear in our communication earlier this week when we launched Deus Ex: The Fall. We did not state clearly that the game would not support jailbroken devices and so we will be switching this off via an update, so that all the supported iOS devices will be able to play the game in the near future.”

“We feel it’s the right thing to do in this situation and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. No customer should be out of pocket when we were not clear from the start, so we’ll get the game updated as soon as possible so that everyone who wants to play Deus Ex: The Fall can do regardless of whether their device is jailbroken or not. As soon as this update is live we will communicate this via the Eidos Montreal Community channels.”

It looks like those who paid for the game and have a jailbroken device will have to wait a bit longer to be able to fire their weapons. The game was developed by Square Enix’s Mobile division in Europe, in collaboration with the original Deus Ex: Human Revolution team at Eidos-Montréal and N-Fusion.

Assholes. I’m glad they’re going to fix it, but for me, the damage has been done.
