WhatsApp Reveals Its Userbase for the First Time: 250 Million Active Users

WhatsApp has never revealed numbers when it comes to their user base, but CEO Jan Koum did reveal the company was bigger than Twitter at D: Dive into Mobile. The secret of their user base is no longer, as the company has revealed to the Wall Street Journal they have surpassed 250 million active users in just four years–the first time they have ever shared these numbers publicly:

WhatsApp tells The Wall Street Journal it has more than 250 million monthly active users, the first time it has revealed a rough number of users for its popular smartphone messaging app.

A week ago WhatsApp shared on Twitter it had processed a new record 27 billion messages in 24 hours, a sign of the networks sheer capacity to scale and handle messages across numerous platforms. The company shows no signs of slowing down and has quietly created one of the largest messaging networks around the globe.
