Zite – Finding The News You Care About [Review]

Share:

Simple and clean

If you looking for a new way to find news and media in over 40,000 topics, you should take a look at Zite, which has recently been updated to 2.0.  Everyday Zite analyzes millions of articles it finds online, then it sorts them into topics for you to explore.

You can find the new Explore page by tapping the icon in the top right. Here you’ll find three lists of topics: Popular, Zite’s Picks, and New & Noteworthy. Each topic has a lot of content, which becomes personalized as you rate them. Also, most of the content within a topic will have a related topic below the title, and if you tap it, you’ll be sent to that related topic. This makes exploring related content really convenient.

Thanks for the suggestion

Navigating from topic to topic is very smooth, most of the time. Exiting content can be done by swiping left to right. Also, going back to a previous topic can be done the same way. However, if for example you looked at the Gaming topic, then went to the Apple News topic, then swiped back to Gaming, you can’t swipe right to left to go back to the Apple News. This is annoying, because you’ll either have to go to your Quicklist or search for the topic again to go back.

Also, I thought the new 2.0 feature that connected Zite to my Facebook and Twitter accounts to find topics related to what I have already liked, sounded great, but Zite only found one – Star Wars. Considering I like more than just Star Wars, I was hoping Zite would be able to suggest more than one topic.

You can save your favourite topics to your Quicklist

Zite is really easy to use, and it will help you find the news you care about. As long as you rate the content you like. You can download Zite for free from the App Store here. Then let us what you think of it or tells us how you find the news you’re interested in.

The new update stinks. Fewer options to customise info on one’s own (such as getting more articles from a specific source/author/with specific keywords, as those buttons have now disappeared in the iPad version). It now appears that one has to leave it up to zite and their algorithm to make selections for you. I also liked the old layout with more articles on the page (iPad version). I will be downgrading to the old version.

  • You should have seen it before v2 when it was great. Now it is just another news reader exactly like the others.
