Tim Cook Suggests Apple Will Redefine What We Know as the Television Set

During an interview with Brian Williams of NBC, Apple CEO Tim Cook poured gasoline on the fire when asked about the company’s future plans. He suggested that the company has big plans for the living room, enough to reinforce earlier speculation about Apple building a television set in the near future.

“When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” he said. “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”

Tim Cook’s comment is one of the strongest hints about Apple’s future plans, as the company is renowned for its innovative efforts. Such a television set has been rumored for years now, but there have been no specific moves in this area, or at least not that were visible.

Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs was the first hint to pour gasoline on the fire, as Jobs said he had finally cracked the secret to building a television.

One of the best Apple analysts, Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, released his forecast for Apple’s product release schedule for next year, and he claims that Apple is indeed building a television, and will release it somewhere during the holiday season.
