Cheaper Macs For Canada?

Living in Canada has it’s advantages like poutine, beaver tails, cottages and hockey. But there are a few disadvantages as well – one being higher prices for Apple products. Come on Apple give us a break! According to 9 to 5 Mac, we may be in luck and could see better prices soon.

In the past Apple has altered the price of its products to compensate for the differences in currency. Now with the value of the US dollar dropping and the Canadian dollar actually being stronger, we could see a price change.

According to WolframAlpha, at the time of writing, $1 (Canadian) = $1.05 (US) which is great for us. So I think Apple should get just rid of that extra $50 or so.

Now, I’m excited to see when this Lion thing is coming out and what hardware comes along with it. Are you?

Everybody is off the map here … We all know Robelus is the most expensive in the world … That’s not the discussion … We are talking purely about hardware … Apples to apples (pun not intended) Canada is cheaper then the states. Grand scheme of things were not even close but lets talk about hardware.

It’s only cheaper because they make their money back with their expensive 3 year contract. If you want to compare “Apples to apples” then you have to compare the non-subsidized price.

    Canada

    $779 – 32GB iPhone 4
    $519 – 16GB iPad 2

    US

I actually sent a letter to Apple Canada a few months ago asking for reasoning why they continue to charge higher prices for Apple products in Canada when our dollar has been stronger than the US dollar for countless months now.  Very polite and professional snail mail letter,  never received a reply but hey.. Maybe (hopefully) this is the reply..?

1 minor correction… The Canadian dollar isn’t actually getting ‘stronger’, the American dollar is just just getting weaker… And will continue to do so until it’s worthless. Zimbabwe style.
