Today, Apple released the latest iTunes 9.2.1. The new iTunes is available on a PC/Mac via Apple Software Update or from Apple’s website.

The new iTunes 9.2.1 update addresses various bug fixes and enhancements for iTunes, iOS 4, and iDevices. The details of the update are listed below:

• Addresses minor issues with dragging and dropping items

• Addresses a performance issue when first syncing to some devices with iTunes 9.2

• Addresses an issue upgrading to iOS 4 on an iPhone or iPod touch with encrypted back-ups

• Addresses other issues that improve stability and performance

The iTunes 9.2.1 update also delivered several security fixes detailed in this support document.

As usual, if you’re jailbroken or plan to jailbreak, it is best to avoid the iTunes 9.2.1 update until further notice.

I'm fairly new to jailbreaking, can you tell me why it would be best to avoid upgrading to the new Itunes if I plan to jail break?

    Thanks!

Apple has been known to disallow syncing to iPhones that are jailbroken with newer versions of iTunes than what the latest version of iTunes was when jailbreak was created. It's just best to wait and see if all is good

  • Thanks

    Interesting, thx!!

Sounds like they killed off the “hack” of viewing accurate signal strength on iOS 4, then. =(

  • I hope it fixes the iTunes Store crash on Leopard!

Quick question; I have a 3G (jail broken and unlocked). I do plan on getting the iphone 4, my question is how will I be able to update my new iphone 4 such that it has all my contacts, text mess, etc from my 3G. Will I have to update my phone (so it will be locked again), back it up attach my new iphone 4 and then at a later time jailbreak and unlock my iphone 3G again?

  • Ex

You can use MobileMe or restore your iPhone 4 from the backup of the 3G via iTunes

Hi Ex, I haven't backed up my 3G for a while (since i've jail broken/unlocked it). That is my concern, I have no issues with updating itunes and then my phone going back to non-jail/locked. I thought that would be the easiest way. Ie. update itunes, connect iphone (it will be locked and not jailbroken anymore) do a backup and then when iphone 4 gets here restore from itunes. Does that work?

  • Ex

Yes. But you can just back up your jailbroken iPhone 3G and then restore that to your iPhone 4. Only the content and media is saved.

    Thank you!
