New Job Posting Suggests Exciting, Innovative Next Generation Apple TV

Apple is about to extend its presence in the living room – or at least this is what the most recent job posting by the company suggests. According to the job listing posted on Apple’s website (via 9to5Mac), the Cupertino company is looking for an experienced engineering manager to “lead a team of engineers working on exciting new features and functionality” for the next generation Apple TV. The job refers to the Apple TV as a high-priority project.

The Apple TV team is looking for an experienced engineering manager to help deliver the next generation features for Apple TV. Bring your creative energy and engineering discipline, and help us bring the Apple experience to the Living Room.

Description

– Lead a team of engineers working on exciting new features and functionality
– Drive releases from initial concept to completion
– Work closely with cross functional teams, representing Apple TV across Apple
– Develop the engineering plan for upcoming projects.

While there is no official confirmation of an upcoming Apple TV-related event, the rumour mill suggests the company is about to introduce a refreshed TV platform. Analysts claim Apple will likely introduce a new Apple TV SDK, but this rumour was quickly denied.

Yet the potential of the Apple TV is high, despite being a “hobby” product. As MG Siegler points out in his article, Apple’s next move could be introducing the app/game ecosystem for Apple TV as well. It could repeat the success it enjoyed with mobile gaming, but this time it could do it by taking over the living room, Siegler speculates.

His thoughts about gaming are backed by hard numbers put together by Horace Dediu of Asymco (see the graph below).
