1,072 Bell Aliant Customers Set Texting Guinness World Record

Earlier today Bell released its numbers for its Let’s Talk Day campaign towards mental health, an initiative that raised $4,813,313.30 in funding yesterday.

Part of yesterday’s 9,266,266 calls, texts, tweets and Facebook shares included a 1,072 Bell Aliant customers gathered at the Halifax Metro Centre. These folks were able to set a new Guinness World Record for the most people sending a text message at the same time, in support the Let’s Talk Day campaign.

“The show of support for mental health here yesterday was tremendous,” said Dan McKeen, Senior Vice President, Customer Solutions. “Setting a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title is not something you get to take part in every day, and the additional money raised and support provided to Canadians suffering with mental illness made everyone very proud – it was amazing to be a part of it.”

The previous record for such a feat was accomplished in 2011 by students at Pine View High School in Utah for their driving and texting awareness initiative.
