Bell Launches 4G Wireless Service in Pelly Crossing, Burwash Landing in Yukon

Bell has launched 4G wireless service in Pelly Crossing and Burwash Landing, completed in partnership with the Government of Yukon, part of Northwestel’s Modernization Plan, which aims to bring faster wireless and internet to northerners in all three territories.

“Bell Mobility is pleased to welcome Pelly Crossing and Burwash Landing to our national 4G network as Bell and the Yukon government continue to roll out advanced broadband wireless service in the North,” said Wade Oosterman, President of Bell Mobility.

Last fall Northwestel (a subsidiary of BCE Inc.) transferred its wireless portfolio to Bell, which along with the Yukon government is investing $2.6 million to create 13 new wireless sites over the next four years across various Yukon communities. Completion of these sites is expected for 2017, when “Yukoners in every community will be able to use current smartphone technologies,” said Economic Development Minister Currie Dixon in a statement.

Coverage maps have not been updated yet to reflect 4G coverage yet.
