Now, there are caveats to this app. Live TV isn’t available if you’re not a Bell subscriber. I tried selecting Shaw as my local provider and it says it’s an “unsupported provider” so that means no live CTV for me. However, Bell says additional TV service providers will be launching CTV GO soon.

Also, AirPlay functionality is not available in the app and many users have expressed this in their negative reviews within iTunes. The app does have a lengthy list of 60 CTV shows available for watching on demand and they are ad-supported.

“With the launch of CTV GO, thousands of hours of livestreamed and on demand content from CTV are now available,” said Adam Ashton, Senior Vice-President, Business Operations, Bell Media. “It’s a win-win-win as CTV GO strengthens the relationship between broadcaster, BDU and viewer by allowing valued subscribers to take CTV on the go, wherever they may be.”

Don’t worry – You are not alone on Shaw – It doesn’t work for non “Bell Proper” customers either – @Bell_Aliant FibreOp here in Nova Scotia and I’m an Unsupported Provider. Bureaucracy at its finest there.

Well, while the ‘Live’ version doesn’t work, I’m perfectly fine with watching episodes streamed when it suits me, as is still the case with this app.

Also worth noting that they’ve (finally) released their app for Android, too.

Still, this requirement that you be signed up with a provider before you are allowed to watch something that is being broadcast (in major centres) via OTA digital does signify the danger of convergence – cable providers that own terrestrial digital broadcasters.

It doesn’t surprise me that they are trying to freeze out non-Bell subscribers. On Shaw VOD you can watch episodes of shows from Global and City, but not CTV.

Doesn’t work on Jailbroken devices. Useless.

As far as I can tell this doesn’t work with apple tv
