[Update] Fido iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Start on Friday, October 7th at 6AM EDT

Update 1: Try the following if you are getting an error on the Fido website (via Chris and Adam in the comments):

To anyone else reading this, go update your email address in your Fido profile. Log-out. Login. Try and Reserve again. Repeat the process until your email address auto-propogates when Reserving, and it will work.

Fido will allow users to pre-order the iPhone 4S on Friday, October 7th at 6AM EDT, according to a posting by a moderator in the Fido Forums:

Hi everyone,

That is correct. You will be able to reserve an iPhone 4S as of October 7th online in the MyAccount and then selecting PHONE RESERVATION.

We do not yet have any information regarding the prices or the date that it will become available. I would suggest keeping posted to our website as it will be updated as soon as we receive any news.

Existing customers can reserve the iPhone 4S through the Fido Reservation System starting Oct.7.

The time wasn’t confirmed as 6AM EDT (3AM PDT), but since Rogers is offering iPhone 4S pre-orders at 6AM EDT, this only makes sense the times would be the same. We have yet to hear from Bell regarding pre-orders for the iPhone 4S. Telus is offering iPhone 4S pre-orders at 3AM EDT (12AM PDT).

    Anybody know If your spot on the list is local or nationwide? I got in at 4:55am CST and got 78th spot. I’m hoping thats good enough to get one in the first day or two. Hopefully Rogers ships them Thursday for pickup on Friday or Monday at the latest.

    Log into your account. On your account info page, in the left column should be a yellow button that reads “PHONE RESERVATION”. Click on it and go from there.

    It was doing this a ton for me at that time, but when I reserved just now it was, surprisingly, fine… and actually even quick. I throughly expected to get repeated error messages but had none at all.

    I don’t think so.  Since each number posted is higher than the last, I am assuming these numbers are national and not local to the store you ordered from, which makes you number 403 for Fido in Canada.

    I just reserved a iPhone 4s White 16gb (#603) and on the email, it state I order a iphone “4” white 16 gb. Was I sleepy and I need to do the reservation again or is it a typo from Fido? Anyone got that?

    I should have mention I received the confirmation in french. A friend of mine who ordered the same thing 4S W received the same email. I suspect a typo in translation.

  • I didn’t’ see any white models either, just iPhone 4’s then iPhone 4S’s Black, on the phone with Fido now trying to change it to white without losing my queue # but it’s proving to be difficult, Fido seems to be lost once again

    I just got an email saying I ordered the iPhone 4 white but I am sure I got the 4S since they don’t even have the 16 gb 4 on thier reserve site. I aM calling them now

    Nope. Fido confirmed that 50% of customer can use the system- regardless of the time. I’m done. I hate Fido.

  • Fraser, they didn’t open the pre-orders until 5:40am.  So you getting up at 3am and trying then would have been useless for *anyone*   If you started at 5:40am then the story would be different.  So you can’t complain about the system not working from 3-5:40am.  Now you can however, complain if you are trying now and it’s down.  But I ordered no problem at 5:50am, with zero errors. 

  • Unless you’re on the west coast..  Is Fido offered in the west coast?  I just thought of that.  If you are on the west coast, then yes, you trying to use it at 3am Pacific tie would be correct.

    Yeah dude. I’m in BC. I called Fido first thing 5AM BC time and they confirmed that about 50% of customers will continue to get the error regardless and we should be able to do it by Monday which makes no sense. I’ll jump on someones else’s pre-order list today.

    I called Fido to confirm the reservation. After being told 20 times that they are not selling before october 14th he succeed in understand that I only wanted a reservation confimation. So, yes, even tough the email state only iphone 4, it’s actually the 4S that was reserved.

    Fido has really effed up this, for the longest time I though the only had the black 4s available so I ordered that and was #28 on the list, now that they have updated it, I am #1206 cause I wanted to swap. Horrible, I am going to phone the right up!!!!!!

For a person who would just like to get the right phone, they have to efff up right at launch.  Honestly, not may people knows that 16g doesn’t exist for iphone 4. so i ordered the black 4s and was position 28, now i dropped that to order the white and is 1602. FML, they better get that many or I am going to twist their heads

    Canada’s 3-year contracts screws me over!

    I called Fido, they won’t bump the so-called early upgrade eligibility so I’d have to pay a $200 penalty to “cancel” my current iPhone 3GS contract (and presumably lose my 6 GB data plan too).

    Those upgrading from an iPhone 4: are you paying the cancellation penalty or can you go through retentions to get it waived?

    Found out how to get around the “unexpected” error, you have to add a email address to the main group profile. You will know it by when you go to do the reservation and a email address doesn’t auto populate. Finally got mine in but I am 2615 in line. Is it possible fido did this on purpose so that the load on the server would be limited? Due to I know my profile had a email address before, that’s how I got my bills! Plus the fido reps didn’t know how to fix this.. I wonder…

    my reservation number is 438, place with fido at 4;05am westcoast time. 32gb white. but said its iphone 4 in the email. may have to call fido to confirm that.

    Haha my cancellation fee was $600 and sign a new 3year deal to get phone at $269 (32GB 4S)  
    or
    $749 for the phone and probably the $25 administration fee (which I didnt bother to ask)

    I might as well try to get a unlock version from Apple!

    I started the process at 3:58 Mountain time and was surprised I could pre-order. Finished the process at exactly 4 and was 127 at the time, now I’m 125 when I checked an hour ago.

    For everyone wondering, the reservation number is the _national_ position in line for that particular device. I just asked Fido directly. (We reserved a 32 and a 64 at about 6:05am EST and got positions in the low to mid 200’s. We’re hoping that’s easily within day 1 shipping action as we hobble along with our iPhone 3G handsets.)

    What a night, what an effort to reserve,, I tried logging in sometime at mid-night ~ 1 AM just to get a feel of the website and access (why am I not surprised FIDOs server wouldnt support the bandwith of all users),,
    Long Story Short,, woke up at 3,, server error to log in (20 tries),, went back to bed,, woke up at 5,, Logged In, but “No Active Phones to Reserve” message was showing (after 10 tries), same message. went back to bed,, woke up at 5:30,, logged in no problems,, “No Active Phones to Reserve” (after a try every 1 minute); BANG the iPhone babies POP UP at exactlly 5:35~5:36,,, I rash to make an order,, list was limited to: 8GB Black 4, 64GB Black 4S, 8GB White 4, 16GB White 4S, 32GB White 4S, and 64GB White 4S” >> no black 16GB or 32GB,, since it had to be black, I ordered the 64GB Black 4S,, I was position number 1 !! then I realized, my bill would be at least $249 ~ $299,, cancelled reservation (fingers crossed it would let me order again immediately); luckly it did, and the list included all models this time around,, picked up the 16GB Black 4S at 5:42 approx and was number 37. Now number 35. what a tiring experince

    This I did notice this morning…cancelled and re-ordered 3 times but still was seeing iphone 4 in confirmation email and on my account page. Called Fido and was told there could be a typo in the confirmation email…the agent told me that he will let their IT know…it was fixed this morning…but lost my spot from 344  to 1280 🙁

    Thank goodness I’ve kept mine from my elderly 3G. I’m probably one of the small percentage who actually uses lots (but never all) of it.

    Yikes, that does sound tiring. Great reserve position though. Mind you, I don’t believe your bill will be charged until the phone actually arrives and you pick it up. My account is only showing the refundable reserve fee at present.

    That was no typo Scroat. My wife and I both have 3G handsets, not 3GS ones. Yes, the last 11 months or so has been a PITA with the phones, but I’m handy so I’ve managed to keep them usable. The main problem has been general slowness due to the OS being too much for the phone to handle. But we’ve gotten by with the way we use them.

    You may be wondering why didn’t upgrade earlier? Well… There were essentially no iphone 4’s available in Victoria (through Fido) from their launch till the end of 2010, plus we weren’t technically eligible for “early” upgrades till Feb/Mar 2011. By that time speculation was that the next handset was only a few months away… which turned out to be 7 months. Oh well. Anyway, we’re here now and very much looking forward to our 4S’s. And the kids are looking forward to our 3G’s.

    Yup, always always always takes screenshots, even if everything looks like it’s going right. That way if it does go wrong you at least have some proof of something. And if it does end up going fine, you just ditch the images.

    Hmm, so it sounds like they’re aiming to start shipping a first batch of some size come Tuesday. This makes sense with their average 4 day delivery times that they’re trying to hit delivery on Friday.

    Keep stuffing those boxes Fido peeps… Only 150+/- more till you’ve got mine ready to go!!

    @Gary, THAT is worth $500 to you? Or do you actually move around between carriers (and travel) with your iPhone? I’ve considered getting a phone straight from Apple, but realistically (and based on the last few years for me) I’m actually fine getting a cheaper phone and paying for the service I’d be using anyway.

    @Gary, no, not alone for sure, but certainly in a minority. In fact I have a good friend who goes the Apple route for his handsets too, and for good reason. I would too if I needed the flexibility (and hated carriers I suppose). Touch wood, I’ve actually had a decent to good experience with my carrier.

  • I got the 32GB and I am still 49 “open” as of 10am October 12th.  I’m starting to think I’ll just be screwed over completely and not even get the phone on release day despite having a number that low.  Rogers customers are in progress in the 100’s reservation codes, and my sister went from 81 to 40 and I am sitting at Fido at 49 with zero movement on the 12th.  I’m just confused about this.  Then a rep said that my spot meant nothing because it depends on the location I am picking up my phone.  I sent it to a small booth at a mall because it is closest to where I live.  I am not liking that – that if you choose a smaller pick up spot, you get screwed?  I just feel all bad all around over this whole thing and I am no longer happy.  I could understand if things only started moving tomorrow or Friday, but when you see everyone around you seeing their orders shipped n the 100’s, you have to wonder why you’re stuck at 49 with no progress.

    The reservation list IS national.  Each reservation number issued by each carrier represents the number of people nationally that have reserved a particular phone.

    I just checked, I’m number 1413 in line, my status in Open (I’m not sure what that means, is it better then “in process” or not) and I ordered the White 60GB iPhone 4S. I wonder the odds of me getting it on Friday, does anyone have an idea? Orders for the white one are less common, and so are orders for phones with as much storage space, but I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing in terms of how quickly I’ll get it!

    Well it wouldn’t normally matter that much if I just get it next week, but in my case the Fido account is in my dad’s name and he is going back to France on Saturday, so it doesn’t look good since he has to be there to pick it up!

    Sure you can, if you’ve got nothing better to do. Keep in mind they might still not have one at the store for you as they aren’t getting endless supplies of them.

    I’m still number 1300 something, with open status, for the iPhone 4S 64GB White,  but I went to the Fido store near my home, and just asked for one and they gave it to me, I maybe waited 5min, and that was it, so it clearly was a waste of time to reserve the phone online, cause that means getting it at a later date. So glad I just went to the store!

    Yeah I did, they just made me a Level 1, which means I don’t need him to be with me, I can just make decisions and pick up the phone on my on, but it doesn’t matter now, cause i just went to the store with him, and got the phone and canceled the reservation/

    I got my iPhone 4S (Black, 64GB) today. I was #220 when I pre-ordered, and #214 just before it went from “Open” to “In Progress”.

    Pretty nice phone. Light years beyond my crippled 3G…

    I actually got a call about our 4S’s around noon today. We were 219 and 252 for the 64 and 32. But, since I had happened upon a couple of 4s’s during the weekend, I told the store they could put our reserved ones back into the pool. The reservation system worked, yes, but the vague status of “In Progress” didn’t really help to let me know how where things were at enough. Still, it was handy to book a couple of handsets from day one (and WAY better than the painful iPhone 4 launch.)

    And yes, these 4s’s are awesome, especially compared to our 3G handsets. I quite like dictating stuff to Siri, especially emails. I look forward to the arrival of her location awareness.

    No, I was open though, not in process, so it was easy to cancel, plus they said it from the beginning that the $40 was gonna be subtracted from the next bill. So u pretty much will pay $40 more now, but $40 less next month.
