Public Mobile Launches U.S. Roaming Plans for Talk, Text, Data [u]

Telus-owned Public Mobile has teased U.S. roaming plans would be coming in November, and they are now live (we can confirm they are live).

Existing customers can subscribe to these plans by logging into their account and click on the “Plan and Add-ons” tab, which shows various options for talk, text and data, available for 10-day periods.

  • $8: US Roaming – Unlimited Talk (10 Days)
  • $8: US Roaming – Unlimited Text (10 Days)
  • $10: US Roaming – 250MB Data (10 Days)
  • $15: US Roaming – 500MB Data (10 Days)
  • $20: US Roaming – 1GB Data (10 Days)

Update: Public Mobile says the plans are listed but don’t use them yet:

Hey Community,

As some of you have noticed, U.S. Roaming Add-Ons are now available in Self-Serve. While you can see them in Self-Serve, and are able to purchase them, we do not have the roaming service up and running just yet. But, we are VERY close! We promise that you will be the first to know as soon as it’s fully launched and working! In the meantime, please do not purchase the U.S. Roaming Add-Ons until we give you the all-clear. We don’t want you to buy something that you can’t use.

We also wanted to let you know that Self-Serve is running slower than normal, and that we are working on a fix for it.

Thanks for your patience, and stay tuned for an update!

Update: there are also U.S. bundles too (website still rolling these out):

  • $15 Talk and Text (10-day)
  • $20 Talk, Text and 250MB data ($10-day)

If you subscribe to unlimited U.S. talk, text and 1GB of data, that will cost you $36 for a 10-day trip. You’re limited to 100MB of data per day, but if you’re not streaming video, this should be enough to stay connected for iMessage and maps usage. It’s good to know U.S. roaming options are available, but we’d probably go with a local SIM when travelling down south.

Other carrier options, such as Rogers Roam Like Home costs $5 per day, up to a max of 10 days per monthly bill at $50.

With the addition of U.S. roaming add-ons from Public Mobile, we could potentially see International add-ons in the future, too.

Public Mobile’s promo $38/4GB plan expires on November 20th. Click here to read our full guide on how to switch over from the Big 3.

Since switching from Fido, the Public Mobile network (Telus nationwide LTE) has been really good and we haven’t looked back.
