Fido/Rogers Employee Purchase Plan: iPhone 3G Time?

Lots of people out there are still debating about whether or not they want the new iPhone 3G. Well, Fido users seem to have all the fun with their early evening plans versus Rogers. Currently, the hottest “plan” right now is the Fido Employee Purchase Plan (EPP) at $17.50/month (it’s also being offered by Rogers, but evenings start at 6pm; some folks have even been able to add $2 for 5pm early evenings on Rogers).

What do you get for $17.50/month from the Fido EEP?
- Unlimited evenings and weekends from 5pm
- Unlimited incoming text messages
- 200 weekday minutes; per second billing
- 3 year contract

Manitoba and Saskatchewan Fido customers get an even better deal for $20/month:
- Unlimited evenings and weekends from 5pm
- Unlimited Fido to Fido/Rogers to Rogers (or network calling)
- Unlimited incoming text messages
- 250 weekday minutes; per second billing
- 2-3 year contract

If you get the Fido EPP at $17.50/month on a new 3 year contract, you are eligible to purchase an iPhone 3G for $249. If you’re on an existing plan, you can just switch to the $17.50 without re-signing for 3 years.

What does it take to be eligible for the EPP? Become part of any organization such as Air Miles, Esso Extra, Costco…and you can join. Some users have been able to add the plan without submitting any membership info to CSR’s.

Why Get the EPP Plan?

The EPP plan is good for those people who don’t care for voicemail, caller ID, and texting. It’s essentially your no frills monthly phone plan. Some people have been signing onto the plan, buying the iPhone 3G for $249 (for voice plans less than $30/month, an extra $50 is tacked onto $199, making it $249), and flipping it for savings! To quote Rehan from RFD:

I signed my wife up for the $17.50 “killer plan” on Fido today (new account), and got the iPhone 8GB with it. If she just uses her old Fido phone, we can sell the iPhone for about $500…that’s $220 more than the $249+tax cost, so that $220 is like a $6/month saving spread out over the life of the 36 year contract. If you don’t care about getting a new phone, $11.50/month + SAF + 911 + tax is a pretty good deal.

EPP + iPhone 3G Possibilities?

What about those that want to use their iPhone 3G? Another possibility is getting the $17.50 EPP and coupling it with the extended 6GB/$30 data plan. Add in the $15 value pack like Ruffdeezy did and you will have yourself a decent iPhone 3G monthly plan. Don’t want data? Call in and get Rogers/Fido to block data on your account to avoid incurring data charges (keep calling in until you get a CSR that will block it for you).

One of the big advantages of choosing Fido over Rogers is billing by the second. That will save you big time on your daytime minutes usage. Take in the early evenings at 5pm, plus Fido dollars that you can use towards the future purchase of hardware, and you have a pretty good no frills monthly plan! The EPP ends October 31st, so if you are looking for a cheap, basic monthly plan, better act now!

    This is just annoying, Rogers store in downtown Calgary telling me to call Rogers to get the plan, as it’s only for new subscribers. I call Rogers they tell me to go to a Rogers store and do it.. Wtf seriously I had the exact same problem getting my iphone without a data plan. I think I will just call the Chinese Rogers line when they are open and hope that the Chinese actually know wtf their talking about unlike the normal CSR.

    This is just annoying, Rogers store in downtown Calgary telling me to call Rogers to get the plan, as it’s only for new subscribers. I call Rogers they tell me to go to a Rogers store and do it.. Wtf seriously I had the exact same problem getting my iphone without a data plan. I think I will just call the Chinese Rogers line when they are open and hope that the Chinese actually know wtf their talking about unlike the normal CSR.

    Then ask then what can you do for me because this is just fraustrating. Tell them that your along time customer and your friends is not as long and he was able to get some plan that is like $17.50…and go from there.

    This $17.50 doesn’t include Fido to Fido in BC, am I correct? Can you add on the $10 fido to fido to the EPP? I guess that’d be $17.50+$10+$30(unlim. data)+$8(VM)=$65 not including the system access fee. Is that a good deal or not?

    You should have no problem with getting the plan if you are month to month. They will not force you to sign for 3 years.

    All I did was call in and ask to speak with someone from customer relations. I then explained to customer relations that I had been with Rogers for several years in the past, was away for a bit, and have now just started a new contract ($17.50) with them. I also explained that most of my friends and family were on Fido/Rogers and it would be really helpful if I could have network calling added to my line. I then pointed out that I have children, and to keep in contact, they might call so often that I was afraid of using up all my daytime minutes down the road….voila, unlimited incoming added! I had an interest for the Samsung Blackjack, so they are now sending me one (free of charge) and have set up another account (identical as mine) for my 13 year old son…needless to say, he’s looking forward for UPS to come sometime today with his Blackjack.
