Rogers “Hand-Me-Down” Program Discounts to Include Non-Rogers Devices

Rogers will soon offer discounts on monthly plans for customers that bring their own devices, according to MobileSyrup. The changes will come to the existing Rogers Hand-Me-Down program, an initiative announced by the company last September. Here is what the current program entails, as explained by Rogers last fall:

  • If you’re a Rogers wireless customer you can hand down your previous generation Rogers wireless phone to a family or friend when you upgrade to a new one
  • The recipient of that handed down device must be a new customer who activates with Rogers. They can activate on any month-to-month plan or add a line to an existing Family Plan
  • When they activate their Hand-Me-Down device, we’ll waive the activation fee!
  • $5/month off on talk/text plans; $10/month off on talk/text/internet plans

There are currently three month-to-month plans on the Rogers Hand-Me-Down page:

Individual Talk & Text – $35/month

  • 200 daytime minutes
  • 6PM evenings and weekends
  • Unlimited SMS/MMS
  • Unlimited Canada-wide talk and text via Rogers One Number
  • Call display, mini voicemail
Individual Talk, Text and Internet – $55/month
  • 150MB of data
  • 1000 daytime minutes
  • 6PM evenings and weekends
  • Unlimited SMS/MMS
  • Unlimited Canada-wide talk and text via Rogers One Number
  • Call display, mini voicemail
Individual Talk, Text and Internet Family Plan – $35/month
  • Add a Hand-Me-Down device to a Family Plan from $35/month

So essentially if you bring your own phone (any device from any network) Rogers will start providing credits on eligible month-to-month plans, similar to existing offers from TELUS and Bell. Let us know if this is something you are looking forward to.

Too bad they are crappy plans that really aren’t worth the savings compared to other plans out there.

When I brought my unlocked iPhone 5 to Bell, they had a 10% discount on month to month plans for new customers.
