Rogers Adds MMS To iPhone Value Packs!

So we were briefly discussing the other day about whether or not Rogers would be adding MMS to the existing iPhone Value Packs and whether or not there will be a price increase. Well, it has been announced and it seems that MMS is being added to all of the Rogers Value Packs in anticipation of OS 3.0. It will come in the form of Unlimited Picture and Video messages and the prices across select iPhone Value Packs will go up by $5.00 on June 2.

So the price ended up increasing after all, but they added both Unlimited Text messages and Unlimited Picture and Video messages to select Value Packs. For updated plans and recommendations, check out our Rogers plans update here. For just the Value Pack changes alone, check out below for the breakdown of each:

$20 Smartphone Value Pack (was $15)

  • Caller Display with Name Display
  • Enhanced Voicemail
  • WhoCalled Service
  • Unlimited sent/received Text Messages (was 2500)
  • Unlimited sent/received Picture and Video Messages (was 1000)

$20 iPhone Visual Voicemail Value Pack (was $15)

  • Caller Display
  • Visual Voicemail
  • WhoCalled Service
  • Unlimited sent/received Text Messages (was 2500)
  • Unlimited sent/received Picture and Video Messages (Did not have an MMS feature before)

—–

$35 iPhone Data Value Pack (Price stayed the same) (Price increases to $40 as of August 5, 2009)

  • Caller Display
  • Visual Voicemail
  • 500MB of Data
  • WhoCalled Service
  • Unlimited sent/received Text Messages
  • Unlimited sent/received Picture and Video Messages (Did not have an MMS feature before)

—–

So, what does this mean for you? Well, let’s summarize.

  • If you are an existing Rogers customer and already have one of the previous packs and want to keep it, nothing changes for you, but you will not have MMS if you have one of the previous iPhone Value packs (the old $15 or $30 or $35 one). To get the new one, read below!
  • If you are an existing Rogers customer and already have the previous $15 iPhone Visual Voicemail Value Pack, then you will have to change it to the $20 pack in order to get the unlimited text and the MMS feature.
  • If you are an existing Rogers customer and already have the previous $35 iPhone Data Value Pack, then you will have to change it to the newly updated $35 pack in order to get the unlimited text and the MMS feature.
  • If you are an existing Rogers customer and already have the much older $30 iPhone Data Value Pack, then you will have to change it to the new $35 pack in order to get the unlimited text and the MMS feature.
  • If you are an existing Rogers customer and already have the previous $15 Smartphone Value Pack, then you will have to change it to the $20 pack in order to get the unlimited texts and MMS. Otherwise, you stay with 2,500 texts and 1,000 MMS.
  • If you are new to Rogers, the above are your choices for iPhone Value Packs.

So there you have it!

I am extremely curious to hear what you all think about these changes.

It’s nice that messages are now unlimited, but I would have preferred that an option be given to me to increase the messaging. It seems however that the $35 option offers the best value as it now includes MMS at no additional cost and the 500MB data is really only $15, where standalone it is $25.

I’m with Matt MacEwan…hopefully someone will answer his question soon. I have the 6GB/$30 data pack but rarely go over 500MB, with the upgrade, I might want to tether- but is it worth it for $15? Can I downgrade to the $35/month data/features plan?

I used to have an ATT iphone service, for $45 you get ulimited data plan, the visual voicemail and call display are for free. Man Rogers and carab makes Canada looks like thirld world contries. Do you believe that Rogers has a plan that includes 25 minutes for calling USA? twenty five that is not a typo.

I've called into Rogers back in July several times confirming if MMS was included for free if I were to upgrade my iPhone hardware to 3.0 OS. They've confirmed it more than once with me over the phone that my Data Value Pack ($35) includes everything stated above (free text, picture, video msgs). When I checked my bill today it states the rate has gone up to $40! After speaking to the agent on the phone about this she said she couldn't do anything about bringing the rate back down to $35, even though I was told on numerous occasions what I had signed up for was $35! She said she could give me a credit of $10 for two months. I didn't give in – that's nothing compared to how much revenue they will generate from my account for 3 + yrs. I've been a subscriber of Rogers for over 5 years now. This is ridiculous how they cannot adjust the rate back down after they can clearly see I was in fact advised the package was $35 and included MMS. How can they just change the price on me like that? That is not fair and it is not what I had signed up for. I'm due for an appointment with a supervisor. If it cannot get resolved I'll be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

You mean like $0.50$! I just received my bill and got charged $10.50 for 21 messages!!! So a new feature pops up on our iPhone (like a little camera besides a text box) and all of a sudden I owe Rogers more money for using it??? What a load of crap!
