Slow Download Speeds on Rogers 3G Network?

At first I thought I was going crazy. That was until I started receiving numerous tweets from you guys about the recent slowdowns to 3G speeds on the Rogers network. The 3G speeds on my iPhone 4 are usually blazing fast. However, the past couple days everything has slowed down to a snail’s pace.

We recently posted about the update to the Speedtest.net application. Even though people posted their results that seem ‘normal’, there is definitely something ‘not right’ with the Rogers 3G network as of 4pm PST.

I’ve contacted a member of the Rogers Social Media team and will relay any information I receive.

@iPhoneinCanada yeah I notched a HUGE drop in 3G speed in the last few days. Something is wrong.

@iPhoneinCanada 3G has been ridiculously slow in Ottawa all day today.

alexcornellier 3:32pm

@iPhoneinCanada @seanbaker it has been weirdly slow in montreal too today.

Scott9382 3:33pm

@iPhoneinCanada I’ve had slow Service on 3G most of the day in Calgary. Little faster now.

Where are you located? Are you experiencing slow Rogers 3G network speeds?

Update 1: Looks like Fido users are experiencing slowdowns as well.

Update 2, 11:20pm PST: 3G speeds seem to have resumed to ‘normal’ in Vancouver. MUCH faster than before. My Speedtest.net results: 4.74 Mbps download, 3.05 Mbps upload.

Still issues in Calgary on Sept 17. Can’t even break 1 Mbps.

This still isn’t fixed! I’m in Ottawa and we have 2 iphones, and ipad and just bought my mom an ipad on the rogers network and they all are deadly slow. The ipads can be switched to Bell of course, but they had better do something about the it…I wish someone could let us know what’s going on!

    Hello

Can anyone tell me what the download and upload speeds should be for the Rogers 3g network, testing with Speed Test. Thanks

  • Luka

I’m with Telus but I remember a few days ago I had a 1 MB per second speed. It’s fine now, though

  • Danjaf

    around 200ms should be fine.

download still too slow in Ottawa – still 1 Mbps

I am 20 km north of Kingston, Ontario and use the Rogers Rocket Hub (3G) for home phone and internet. The data/ internet is SO bad over the past several weeks that it is unusable … very, very frustrating. I logged a support request with Rogers, but no resolution after almost a week. Three of my neighbours use the Rogers Rocket Stick and are also experiencing this debilitating slowness and extreme frustration. Arlene

I have done speedtest with this http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test/ and am getting speeds less then dial-up sometimes. How can they keep people in a 2 year contract with this going on!!!!!!

what the hell is going on with Rogers, I have been having this issue for almost 3 weeks now. it is so damn slow, ping around 450ms and up and download does not even reach 500Kbps(0.5Mbps) I’m in Toronto. anybody else still having the issue?

RE Dropped Calls or Failed calls in the Calgary area, September 22, 2010 Rogers told me here in Calgary to drop my 3G service to 2G and then things would work. It does, but my contact with Rogers is for the use 3G not 2G in a service. We should all think of what we are paying for and hold them accountable. What Rogers is doing is blaming it on the individual phone not the service. That way they have a delay long enough that the use like you and me are just a fly on the wall and no one will know. Fells like the system is overloaded and unable to cope with the services they have sold to all of us.

I agree. It’s still crap here in Ottawa. I use my iphone to tether alot to my laptop at work, and yesterday around 4 pm I could not even do my banking. I’ve been doing numerous speed tests and it’s all over the place…most of the time really bad. I have written rogers to ask what is going on. I suspect they don’t want to admit the network is either being worked on or overloaded as they don’t want to lose customers.

Hi…Have problems with service on both apple and blackberry, Not receiving calls, I can’t dial out? I received a text messages that I received a call. This slow snail problem has been going on for weeks.
Why is that they can provide bad service without informing customers…but we can’t be late paying our bills?
I am tired of paying for bad service…Can someone please provide customer service.

I am a small business owner in Barrie, Ontario. After several calls to Rogers on Thursday and Friday this week I was finally told that the whole 3G system in Southern Ontario had been down since Thursday. Very bad for business, I have a hub at the store and I have my debit machine connected to the hub. The hub does not work because of the 3G network being down. Rogers did not tell me this until my 4th or 5th call to them. Shame on them for not being up front. Today (Saturday) still no service for iphones or hub.

I’m having issues in Toronto. iPhone 4 — 4 bars — PAINFULLY slow data! Has there been any update or information found on this? There’s a whole slew of discussions on the apple forums from back in june/july on the iphone 4 3g data-related issues.

  • Ace

Very slow in Ontario as well!! WTF!!!

  • St Alphonzo

Rogers has over sold the bandwidth in my area.(Cobourg Ont.)…can be the only cause for the horrrible data rates during the day.
If I preform a speed test during the middle of the day, say, 200pm…i’ll get pings in the thousands, download rates of 2-7 Kb/s, 1-2 Kb/s upload..
do the same test @ 430am and the network is just fine…pings of 100ms, d/l rates of 700+ Kb/s and upload rates just as good…this is an issue that has been getting worse since july 2010….It happens everyday and I’m ready to snap right out
    EPIC SERVICE FAIL

  • Rustybarnacle

Does anyone know if this is currently a problem. At home in Port Moody I have on average 3-4 times the average speed in Vancouver. All to often in Van I’m not getting any data through at all.

  • Oumamass Omar

Montreal Van-horn street btween Wilderton and Parcs is the worst area to use Roges’s data network every days. Yous cna not use streaming or browsing in this area . O.O

I’m an I.T. here in saskatchewan. Roger’s is capping the download speed on there 3G network for sure.
I have two 7.2 Mb modems that i use for work. Novatel & Brodcom. I used to get 5.8 to 6.2 Mb download on both modems. Now for the the past month or so. I will get from 1.5 to 2.8 Mb on both modems. It doesn’t matter if I’m in a basement or in a building or out side. Its the same thing.

“Rogers doesn’t want you to use the 3G network for a replacement of your home internet.”
“Also Rogers doesn’t want you to use the 3G modem or tethering for downloading large files.”

I’m in Toronto, and I have been experiencing slow down speed for at least the past 5 months. Using SpeedTest.net, I can sometime get 1Mbs otherwise I’ll be lucky to get half of that. FIDO’s technical support team blames in on OS4 of the iPhone, but I do not think that’s true. I get very high ping times, usually over 400ms. Anyone else is having issues with Roger’s or FIDO’s network being slow?

  • Len

Ya. I have had my air card through SASKTEL for about a month now, At first I was getting download speeds over 7 mbs,now I”m under 2, But the weird thing is,I still have uploads of over 3mbs, spent time with there teckies on the phone and they can’t figure it out…………..I think they are throttling and don’t want to say….

My phone has had crappy service and Been slow since I got it 2 weeks ago in Saskatchewan.

3G not working in Burlington at all. Fido advised they were working on the problem and to turn 3G off for the time being. I hope they fix it soon. I now realize I have missed many calls and texts today and I use this for business.
