Carrier IQ is Not on Any Rogers or Telus Devices [Update]

Share:

Update 1: Here is what the ‘Big 3’ have to say about Carrier IQ:

Bell says it does not “install or support Carrier IQ or similar programs,” Rogers tweeted “we have investigated and Carrier IQ is not on any of our devices,” and Telus says “it’s not something we’ve installed on any of our devices … we’re not dealing with them.”

With the whole world investigating and asking questions about the root kit Carrier IQ, Rogers and Telus have confirmed the tracking software is not present on any of their devices.

@RogersMary sent out a confirmation tweet, and MobileSyrup got in touch with Telus. Bell has yet to speak about the subject.

Carrier IQ was confirmed to be present on iOS, but you can turn it off by following these instructions. Are you worried about Carrier IQ?

Any confirmation on Fido iPhones?  I would assume since they’re owned by Rogers that the answer would be the same.

Not on Bell either. Fido is owned by Rogers. Makes sense if their parent company doesn’t neither would their subsidiary.

Um this is not correct. I have an iPhone 3GS on Rogers running iOS 4.3.3 and the Carrier IQ binary is present (/usr/bin/aw_ice2). Whether it is enabled is a different matter, but @RogersMary is lying in that she implies that the binary is not even installed.

Apple said that they stopped supporting CarrierIQ in ios 5 and will remove it in a future update.

So any version before will have references to CarrierIQ such as iOS 3 and 4

Rogers and Telus just don’t gather any info about their customers through the CarrierIQ program. The software is still on some devices though

I smell a major Canadian class action lawsuit against the big three IPS’s.

    Who’s in?!

I have a telus samsung galaxy fascinate 4g and have elements of carrierIQ installed on my phone.

Quote, “With the whole world investigating and asking
questions about the root kit Carrier IQ, Rogers and Telus have confirmed the
tracking software is not present on any of their devices.”, unquote. Maybe that TELUS is aware of at this point or what they want their customers to believe. On my wife’s phone, a TELUS Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate 4G+, CIQ is detected in the following locations in the root of the phone, ROM Binaries and Daemons: /system/xbin/iqbridged and Suspicious Classes: com.carrieriq.iqagent.service.receivers.bootcompletedreceiver. Detected using Voodoo CarrierIQ Detector v.2.0.5. TELUS will be getting a call tomorrow… from a landline!
