Fido Launches $99 Unlimited Canada-Wide Plan with 4GB Data [u]

Fido has launched a new Max Plan today, which offers unlimited Canada-wide anytime minutes and 4GB of data for $99 per month (does not apply to MB/SK/QC), available for a “limited time only”. Additional data is billed at $10/500MB.

Max Plans offer up to $450 in subsidies on smartphones when customers sign 2-year contracts. If you happen to be on the $85 Max plan and frequently use over 1GB of data, this new $99 plan offers better value.

Last September, we told you about a $90 Max plan with 4GB data Fido offered to customers who pre-ordered the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. This plan seems similar in nature but it’s $9 more.

Anyone going to jump on this?

Update: for those wondering, Virgin Mobile has the same plan, but Koodo’s $94 plan ($99 on Tab Medium) with 5GB seems to be a better deal.

    Not a great deal indeed…

  • JB

Only in Canada could this horrible plan be a “promotion.”

  • hub2

Keeping my grandfathered $55 6GB plan, thankyouverymuch.

Everyone knows data is what’s important these days, that’s why they’re practically giving away all these previously premium add-ons (anytime, anywhere in Canada calling, unlimited international SMS and MMS) but starting off with pathetically low amount of data.

  • Eric

My plan for $65 for 6gb is a deal

  • Annoyed

Insane. In Australia I am paying $40 a month with this plan bu5 3GB on the country’s best network.

  • ????Dennis

Man that’s a sweet deal, good for you. I have 5GB for $65 (thanks to Gary), but yours is amazing. Does that include an iPhone subsidy as well?

  • Bejan

Romania $8 for unlimited data and unlimited calling anywhere in the world we are suckers back home

  • Anthony

    What are the speeds like?

  • CanucksGoals

It won’t allow you to do any iPhone upgrade with $55 6GB plan. I know it because I had it. I changed it to the $60 6GB LTE plan which allow me to do iPhone upgrade. $5 different and I got $500 discount on my iPhone. 🙂

  • @Richard_Hansen

    Ditto 😉

  • hub2

It did at the time (2011), on an iPhone 4s. iPhone 5 that replaced it was bought at full price.

  • hub2

Can I ask how you managed that? Which carrier, and how long ago?

  • SV650

Australian government heavily subsidizes cellular communications in the country.

I am using Fido. I have the grandfathered $30 6GB data adding on top of a grandfathered $30 voice plan. I added that $30 6GB plan 5 years ago. The voice plan I have it for around 2 year. I am with them more than 17 years.

  • Anon

I have an old grandfathered Unilimited North America (texting + voice) with visual voicemail and 6GB data all for $35 after taxes.

  • NuclearMayhem

Virgin’s $99 plan (which came out before fido’s) is considered one of their premium plans so you can get up to $700 off the phone. With fido you only get $450 and koodo max of $300. In the end if you’re looking for a cheap phone Virgin is still the better deal.

Companies can’t even copy themselves right anymore 🙂

  • wes

Hmmm.. In Quebec it’s 75$ instead of 99$…. You guys gettin’ hosed. 80$ for 500mbs? lol

  • I’m going to relocate my family to Quebec

  • wes

lol not recommended unless you speak french.

  • Oui oui merci beaucoup j’aime manger les poutines avec mes amis

  • My 1/2 cents

the only thing is that sooner or later, you are probably going to have to give up your $55 6GB plan if you want a new popular smartphone. if you do the math, you see that you pay more if you bring your own device (buying it at retail for $700+ vs spending an extra $20+ a month.

the insane thing is the carriers are giving you less and charging more. they want to get everyone off these 6 GB plans yet data demands are increasingly exponentially.

  • My 1/2 cents

that’s better than even many corporate plans. what company is that from?

  • My 1/2 cents

that plan is no longer offered, it’s $60 for 3GB now.

  • Normyd

    Rogers. $85 for 15 gig.

  • hub2

The carrier subsidy on iPhones is only $500 or so, ie if it’s $750 then it’s only $250 on contract.

Not sure how you’re seeing me pay just an extra $20/mo, it would cost me over $50/mo more to approach my current data allowance. At that rate increase, I may as well pay full price, remain contact-free, and already be ahead within 10 months!

  • bionicmonk

Romania has top notch infrastructure. Its all brand new, just built. Highest internet speeds in Europe. I know, KrAzY.

  • bionicmonk

I’m almost swayed to give up my 45$ 6GB LTE unlimited Canada wide talk plan for this. Its only twice the price.

  • robellus_sux

Wait that’s weird they have a time limited offer for a max plan at $99 for 4GB but Fido already has a standard plan for $94 for 5GB? Why would anyone take the max plan?

  • Update: Fido has removed this promo plan from its website today as it’s now gone.
