Fido Promo: Buy a Phone Online, Get $100 Bill Credit

If you were about to purchase a new smartphone from Fido, now may be the time to get it online. The company today has launched a promo for new customers, offering them $100 in bill credit if they buy and activate a phone online.

The company says the credit applies even if your smartphone is $0 on a two-year contract:

Now, when you activate a new Fido plan on a 2-year term, you get a $100 bill credit – even if your phone is $0. Online activation only. Free shipping on fido.ca, as always.

An example would be the entry 16GB iPhone 5s, available for $0 on a two-year contract, with a minimum $55 per month plan. If you purchase this and activate your device online, you’ll receive $100 in credit on your bill. But if you’re into the iPhone 5s, Koodo does have the same phone at the same $0 price on contract, but only requires a $40 per month plan. Long term you’d probably save with Koodo. Overages though, are another story…

Fido says the promo goes until May 16, 2016 and the credit will appear on your second or third statement. The promo is not available in-store and is only online.

The promo looks to push customers to buy devices and activate online, which can alleviate pressure at traditional brick and mortar Fido locations.

Koodo gave all their customers a $100 tab credit a few months ago. I’m considering an LG G4 as a secondary device.

Koodo’s deal is 0$ plus $15/month for 24 months. So it works out the same ($55/month), except Fido also has the $100 credit.
