‘Rogers Alerts’ Officially Launches: SMS Coupons Based on your Location

We first told you about Rogers Alerts on the weekend, where customers can sign up for SMS coupons based on their location from select retail partners. Rogers has officially announced the program this morning, shedding some light on the technology behind it:

National retailers including Sears Canada, Future Shop, Pizza Hut Canada, A&W, Second Cup and Rogers Wireless are amongst the first to take advantage of Rogers Alerts, the first of its kind in the Canadian market. Leveraging highly advanced and innovative geofencing technology on the Rogers Alerts platform, retailers have the ability to target consumers in close proximity to their retail locations with personalized and timely offers.

Rogers Alerts uses the ShopAlerts platform from California-based Placecast, which has implemented their location-based marketing solution previously in the USA and the UK.

ShopAlerts also allows merchants to deploy card-linked offers, so location alerts can be sent to customers to redeem offers linked to credit cards and more. With Rogers authorized to launch a loyalty credit card in 2014, we suspect expect further ShopAlerts integration coming soon, especially through the latter’s mobile wallet platform.

Rogers customers can customize their coupon preferences they want sent to their phone. As stated previously, a current promotion offers $5 off your next wireless bill if you sign up and stay enrolled for at least 30 days. You can text RALERTS to 5050 to sign up. Anyone jumping on this?
