Rogers, Fido 23.2 Carrier Update Fixes iPhone Wi-Fi Calling for Some

Back in December, Rogers and Fido users received carrier update 23.1 and as of yesterday, a new 23.2 update was released for customers.

What does this update bring? Some users such as iPhone in Canada reader @rayray14 note they are now finally seeing Wi-Fi Calling as an option on their iPhone purchased outright from Apple.

How to turn on Wi-Fi Calling? On your device, navigate to: Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling > ON

Wi-Fi Calling allows you to continue to make calls or send and receive texts over Wi-Fi when you’re in places with weak cell coverage, such as basements or at the cottage.

Our iPhone 6s Plus on Fido was prompted for the carrier update yesterday, but once we updated the the version didn’t change (even after a reboot). Our iPhone was purchased outright from Apple and we’ve had Wi-Fi Calling on launch when iOS 9 was out along with carrier update 21.1. Wi-Fi Calling requires a voice and data plan and is only available for postpaid customers, as prepaid users don’t get this feature.

If you go to Settings > General > About on your iPhone, you should see the prompt for a carrier update. Let us know if this update enables or fixes Wi-Fi Calling for you.

  • Yup, both my iPhones were purchase out right as well, and no issues. However, I do notice every once in a while the Fido Wifi indicator goes away even though I’ve been home all day, it’s a rare occurrence though. I wonder if the update will stabilize this as well.

I’ve had the wifi calling option available on my Fido on-contract iPhone 6. Trying to enable it makes you fill out a 911 form, but the feature remains toggled off after you go through the steps. I’ve tried over and again for several months and it’s just stuck in the same loop.

I’m on carrier settings 23.1, it said the update was available, but it didn’t seem to work, just like the article mentions. I live in a building that would have really benefitted from this feature, too. It’s frustrating how often things don’t work as advertised anymore, even after months.

  • Mine is 23.5.3 on Rogers…

    iOS 9.3 beta?

  • Yeah

  • xeronine992

Same.. I always forget what happens when the public version is released. I assume our carrier version will go down to what ever is the proper version?

  • It’s Me

I was promoted too but the version didn’t change. Rogers screws up again.

Finally fixed it for me. I had wifi calling working for a couple weeks when it first came out, then had to swap phones with Apple due to a hardware problem, and then even though it said wifi calling was on it didn’t work – it never said Rogers wifi in the status bar. Finally it works again. Only took them about 4 months and a lot of hours on the phone with tech support…..

I went through the same “loop”. Apple support said it was likely a format issue so I used a strait ward business address and it worked. Then I went back into “Setting/Phone/Wi-Fi Calling/Update Emergency Address” and add my real address before deleting the temperate address. You can store up to 5 addresses.

I have an unlocked Fido phone (previously Telus locked) and update 23.1 is now working with WiFi calling. When 23.2 was released, I had the update for 23.1. It didn’t worked at first, but this morning the feature is finally able to get activated on my iPhone 5S.
