Slow Download Speeds on Rogers 3G Network?

At first I thought I was going crazy. That was until I started receiving numerous tweets from you guys about the recent slowdowns to 3G speeds on the Rogers network. The 3G speeds on my iPhone 4 are usually blazing fast. However, the past couple days everything has slowed down to a snail’s pace.

We recently posted about the update to the Speedtest.net application. Even though people posted their results that seem ‘normal’, there is definitely something ‘not right’ with the Rogers 3G network as of 4pm PST.

I’ve contacted a member of the Rogers Social Media team and will relay any information I receive.

ReyAbucot 3:41pm

@iPhoneinCanada yeah I notched a HUGE drop in 3G speed in the last few days. Something is wrong.

quebec_news 3:48pm

@iPhoneinCanada: same here in Quebec area !!http://bit.ly/dkozYF

shelmart 3:32pm

@iPhoneinCanada 3G has been ridiculously slow in Ottawa all day today.

alexcornellier 3:32pm

@iPhoneinCanada @seanbaker it has been weirdly slow in montreal too today.

Scott9382 3:33pm

@iPhoneinCanada I’ve had slow Service on 3G most of the day in Calgary. Little faster now.

Where are you located? Are you experiencing slow Rogers 3G network speeds?

Update 1: Looks like Fido users are experiencing slowdowns as well.

Update 2, 11:20pm PST: 3G speeds seem to have resumed to ‘normal’ in Vancouver. MUCH faster than before. My Speedtest.net results: 4.74 Mbps download, 3.05 Mbps upload.

I’m in Saskatoon, Sk and I’ve been noticing lower than usual speeds lately, but I could be imagining things, of course. I’ll run the speedtest app and perhaps we can all compare hard data.

  • cursedQC

Very slow here in laval, quebec… !

  • Fungilation

Massive lag in Richmond, Vancouver. Good to know it’s not my newly activated i4 yesterday and it’s rober’s fault.

  • Sandy

Yes I agree. Pathetic even with 5 bars. Latency is through the roof!

I don’t know how closely togeter Fido and Rogers networks are tied but today was the worst i’ve ever seen to data network !

I usually go on the internet with my iphone every day at lunch time and today it was crazy slow ! Most of the time I had error messages like “cannot connect to cellular network”, etc.

I had theses troubles in Longueuil, Québec. On the south shore of Montreal.

If you get any news from rogers, keep us posted !

    Thanks

Same in Niagara. Rogers has been very ‘iffy’. Not impressed I’ve got the new iPhone 4, On occasion I lose 3G all together. Speedtest gives me good numbers but that’s when the thing is working

It’s not just 3G. I’m in Calgary, and my phone service has been going on and off. And when it’s on, 3G (and thus text messaging) is not working.

  • Alrtoo_11

I’ve actually been experiencing these slow speeds on fido’s network here in Toronto. I was worried. Maybe over time, it’ll pass?

  • Makaling

I live in between Toronto and North York. so far I don’t have any problem with my iphone using 3G. Youtube loads fast without any glitch ot error.

  • Makaling

oh i need to add this to my comment.
last night I had terrible connection with my carrier, Rogers. Incoming calls disconnected whenever I receieved. Also, sometime I lose the signal and gets “NO SERVICE” message.

  • Victor K Mok

Same here, took forever to load CBC’s iphone website… (Richmond)

  • m.youtube.com will barely load on my iPhone 4.

  • Anonymous

I’m really glad I’m not hallucinating. Got 1MB download when doing testing today… I usually get 3 to 5.

  • Wsmithitguy

Here in Kingston has been slow the last 2-3 days, to the extent where it wont even load webpages sometimes.

  • Surrey area. Around my back streets very slow .5 – 1.5 mbps. Once I get on the main streets I go to 3-4 Mbps. I have noticed over time that location (not always bars) determine my connection speed. When I was over at UBC last month I was getting 7.5X Mbps over 3G. I couldn’t believe it so I even double check to make sure my wifi was off.

  • Jr

Waterloo, Ontario on Fido. Insanely slow today. Speedtest shows .5 Mbps or slower all afternoon. I’ve recorded as high as 4.32 Mbps this past weekend

  • Gavin Murphy

same here in Ottawa…very very sloooow. WTF??

  • Yep, same here in KW. Websites have been deathly slow the last couple of days, and youtube video quality’s dropped drastically due to sensing less bandwidth. Thought I might be getting penalized or something. Glad I’m not alone! Also sad I’m not alone… what’s up with this?

Could be an iPhone issue. I’ve been doing some speed comparisons with my iPhone 4 and my wifes Blackberry Bold both on Rogers IPhone is brutally slow loading pages. The blackberry is loading pages much faster. Now that’s just wrong!!

Slow in toronto as well. sometimes you’ll get really fast speeds and sometimes it’ll take minutes for minescule site/emails to load and will time out.

  • Dennz

Here in Kelowna BC 3G is almost useless today! I can’t even get speedtest.net to work today. It seemed to start last week my upload speed was way faster than download on speedtest.net 2 Mbps down and 3Mbps up

Extremely slow for me today in Montreal. I thought it was my Iphone 4. I am glad to here its not only me.

  • Salaman

…and on Fido (uses Rogers’ network so same thing). Sorry for the triple post!

  • BlackX

It’s slow for me too. I’m with Rogers and I live in QC City.

  • Nadeemkhan

It’s not just the 3G speeds, their network has had major issues too. I’ve had my phone say “sim not provisioned” twice and 3 days in a row their voicemail system was on and off. I used to get the “number you have called is not assigned” error. If you ask me Rogers is doing some upgrades of maybe coming out with something better because if not, not only are they not the fastest, soon they’ll be in reliable too

  • David

Experiencing super slow internet in Regina and Saskatoon also! Even tested it and it’s not as fast as it should be? What happened to the 3G speed we’re paying for that we’re supposedly promised?

It has been slow for me as well in Toronto. However today I had it and what I did was disable 3G. Let the phone reconnect to the 2G network. Enabled 3G and I can now browse better but the upload and download speeds are stupidly slow!
I just did 5 tests and I never touched 3MB Down, it averaged about 1.7mb Down and 1.8mb Up

I use to reach 5mb for both up and down but that lasted only a week after the iPhone 4 came out then it slowly started dropping down to an average of 3MB…. But today and the last couple of days have been terrible.

  • Bard

I’m in Edmonton, completely lost service (Rogers) twice in the last two days on iPhone 4. First time this has ever happened (to me anyway). Thought it might be the phone, restarted it and service was restored. Maybe it’s the network, not the phone?

  • Erikpomerleau

Same thing for me … I am in Montreal and have been experiencing terrible lags since a few days … Speed tests are sometimes good but it is impossible to browse a complete page or gather my emails without noticeable delay.

I know Videotron has launched their mobile services and that Rogers is their backup for “outside” areas but that would mean they got a few hundreds more users appended to their network…

    EXTREEEMMMLLLYYYY SLOW today in Edmonton.

I’m in Toronto, and Speed Test is giving me roughly 3.0/2.0 at the moment, so no complaints here.

  • Anonymous

Been having rough mobile Internet for around 48 hours now here in Winnipeg. It’s not just 3G but Edge as well.

It’s not that it’s ‘slow download speeds’ but rather an intermittent connection altogether. Try to load a web page and it just sits there…waiting…nothing happening…then eventually a portion of the page loads up really quickly, but then it stalls out again. Wait more…eventually the download resumes and the rest of the page starts popping up. Click on a link on the page and the next page loads up super fast. Click another link and it stalls out again.

Frankly, if it were just a slow connection it would be much more tolerable. This completely intermittent connection is far more annoying.

  • Bodhizettva1

Victoria here… Just plain slow…. Wassup?

Speeds ranging from 0/0 to 1.5/1.5 today.

We should all call and complain. At least I will. This is ridiculous. I was actually worried that I broke my phone since I’ve installed my3G and MyWi recently.

In West Island and downtown Montreal.

  • Claude

Really slow in Gatineau today. Took foreever to load a page

  • CodyMan

My iPhone has barely been usable for data or calling today. In London On.

  • Steve

    Super slow in Ottawa too.

  • Anonymous

Cisco speed test says I have 2Mbits, but Ookla won’t complete a ping test, and even the Cisco app is having trouble loading the map tiles to show me other results in my area. Sounds like a backhaul problem to me.

  • Mhwaite

Really slow on PEI as well….. Half the speed of the old edge. Sounds like it’s Canada wide 🙁

  • Anonymous

Blackberry uses their own servers to get data to their phones. So it is not surprising that Blackberry is not effected.
This slowness is different and should be experienced on pretty much all other non-BB smartphones such as iPhone, Android, Windows, etc… And even Netbooks and USB Data sticks.

  • Anon232

In montreal, it’s been slow as f*ck for the past few days. And that’s everywhere in montreal, from downtown to the suburbs.

  • Sparky

I was going to post the same. I’m also in Kingston, ON and the network has sucked the last new days. Sometimes I’ll lose service altogether when I normally have 4-5 bars all the time. I hope it’s fixed so I don’t have to wait forever for things to load.

  • ET21

I am in Montreal and have not noticed anything wrong with the Rogers 3G.

  • Rx7boyjb

I am in Medicine Hat, and the speed…. well there is nothing not registering hardly at all in speedtest 10338ms latency and 0.01 Mbps down and 0.01 Mbps up.

  • Weebsurfer

Your graphic may ve inacturate. I think Rogers took the “most” out of their reliable slowgan. I guess now we know why. ;). Even Bind DNS didn’t help.

  • Eric

I think I’ve been okay on Fido in Ottawa. I ran a SpeedTest this morning, and had problems getting a ping at first, but on second attempt got 3Mbps down. I thought it was more of a SpeedTest issue, but then I noticed the first attempt was to Montreal, while the second was to Kingston. Maybe something up in Montreal only?

  • Somebody

Jus tested the speed on my 5-bar 3G connection in Waterloo, ON. Here are the results on Tuesday, Sep 14 at 8:58 pm:

    297 ms ping
    0.16 Mbps down
    0.09 Mbps up

    Pathetic!

  • Brandon

Ditto for Kitchener/Waterloo. I thought I was going crazy.

  • Barrettneil

Fido network with iphone4. Extremely slow today north of Belleville Ontario. Sometimes won’t load at all

  • Don522

I have the same problem in the south shore of Montreal.

  • Don522

It seems to affect the first connection or something. I was able to listen to a web radio but sometime when I try to update twitter or something it will not load. It is stuck. I was able to reproduce the problem in speedtest too. The pings won’t start but they start as soon as I start the test on my girlfriend’s iPhone (Telus). I have an iPhone 4 with Fido.

  • Drake

I am in Mississauga. Very slow speed on Rogers 3G. Takes forever to open web pages etc.

  • Marc725

Same in Markham, Speed tst was 0.78 Mbps compared to the usual 3.3 average

I’m hAving issues in Toronto ontario on my iPhone 4

  • Polestar

    VERY SLOW

    -Sudbury, Ontario-

  • Kris

Its the same in Ottawa, thought it was my phone. Tried reseting network setting, safari nothing seems to help.

  • Calliope

Yeah, I’m in Victoria BC and my 3G has been crappy the last couple days. So glad I’m usually in a Wifi zone.

  • Erikpomerleau

Gary, let us know if your contact took good note of these comments … Seems pretty “nation-wide” … Was just dine last week 🙁

  • Lulu

I have been having terrible speed in Montreal for the last 2 days on Fido – I thought it was my iphone 4 but I guess it is an Operator issue.

  • My 3G speeds have been fine lately (spent all weekend at the Vancouver Fringe Festival, off wifi, and no problems), but this morning I woke up and it was just impossible. It honestly felt like being on EDGE again, except that at least on EDGE my requests would finish eventually. This was with full bars as well, on my iPhone 4, so it’s normally a speed demon.

Really curious what’s going on, glad it’s not just me (and my girlfriend).

  • Martinmo1970

10 minutes from Montreal and it’s terrible but also with wifi so I thought it was my iPhone 4. Anyone else experience this? Cell reception has been good

  • Idarnton

effects edmonton also. we should all flood rogers with emails asking whats going on.

  • Rogers is unbelievably slow in Vancouver today!

  • Kylebeers2

Same here, it just sits there……. Forever.

  • Wilyo

My txt and calls have been fine but data is awful. Starting on Friday it was slow and sometimes I got the message “could not activate cellular data” really frustrating :/
Has anyone else gotten the “couldn’t activate cellular data” message in the past week? Thanks. Btw I’m with fido iPhone 3GS with data plan 6GB
Ps I am getting an iPhone 4 thus week! I’m at the top of a waiting list at a store who’s getting stock this week

  • Really slow download in montreal… Sometimes I see download speed of 500kbps while upload is at 3000kbps on my iPhone 4…

  • Optra_man

Same here in the Montreal area. Really bad and spotty speeds lately. Very poor latency also…

  • Wilyo

    I live in London, ON
Also got the same results on my iPad

  • WOW I’m glad when i saw this article…. I thought i was going insane… trying to download with my iPhone and my iPad… and SO SLLLLOOOOOOOOW… I’m in Montreal too…

Anyone called Rogers to know what’s going on ??? any ETA on when it’s going back to normal ?
I did notice it did start monday am…..

  • Xaycan

Extremely slow and often no connection for most of today – Calgary and Okotoks. Just tested now and sites not coming up.

  • Djpech

Slow in Saint John, NB – I thought I was going crazy

  • ReyAbucot

I am ReyAbucot from posting. I didn’t mention I’m from Winnipeg on Rogers. Doing the Speedtest gets me a long wait with a ping of 300+ with 2.1Mbps down and .56Mbps up. Horrible. Rogers will probably deny until the very end when they have it fixed already.

  • lello91

Contacted Rogers Tech support for my blackberry bold not receiving and sending calls/texts and data, they confirmed that Rogers 3G network is having issue today in my area wich is Montreal.

  • Joe Mobile

I am wondering how many of you have updated your phone to 4.1? I am still 4.0.1 and with Telus. I don’t have any problem at all.

  • kevm

Super slow on Fido in London ON. 0.33 Mbps down/0.5 Mbps up. My Rogers cable internet has been a bit flaky today also.

  • Andrewng 24

Really really slow here in Toronto. Makes my iPhone 4 feel like iPhone 3G =(

  • Xaycan

I forgot to mention in my post that I also called Rogers customer service and was told that they have no “reports” of 3G outages. I guess an “outage” is a 100% loss of service while a 95% loss isn’t ? I wonder if Rogers sold more data packages than they can manage?

  • Eason_1108

come on Telus & Bell! time to attack ! =P

  • ReyAbucot

Well I called in and the technical support guy said there are some cities in Canada affected with some 3G issue. He also however said that Winnipeg is not one of them and continued on to another tech guy who said it’s because I haven’t upgraded to 4.1 that my 3G speeds decided to slow down. That’s a load of BS. I knew it would he denied. The first guy even said he’s talked to a few people in Winnipeg who have the same issue. The problem is that there is no notices internally about a problem here. How retarded.

  • Xaycan

You should’ve told those jokers that some of us have upgraded to 4.1 (myself included) and are experiencing slow-to-no 3G service.

  • Jbohn

I was getting horrible speeds in Penticton earlier today, almost as if 3G was turned off. At some points it was unresponsive. But just now in Kelowna I’m getting 4.55 Mbps down and 3.28 up. I think Kelowna has a faster Rogers network though…

  • Diraj Goel

Yup… noticed a significant slow in Vancouver as well. Been slow for most of the afternoon.

  • Xoneguymudpie

Its been crappy in Barrie and the GtA the past couple of days also. Especially today. I’ve been receiving the “could not activate” message all day. It’s driving me nuts!

  • Jesse

yep mine in Saint John, NB is noticeably terrible.

  • Vestibule

Slow as helll in Mission/Vancouver since monday… Any answers?

  • CRH

Slow for most of the day in Calgary.

  • Alborst

Yeah, I just ditched my Cable internet as I just don’t need two internets. I’m trying to do an online course in which I have to open all kinds of responses from fellow students. Each one takes a good 30 seconds. Driving me nuts.

  • merms

I think I MAY have fixed this. I did a network settings reset and for now it seems fine. I was experiencing this today and yesterday, and was surprised to find this article on here.

Super slow on Vancouver Island…Thought my phone was messed up.

  • Paul

Rogers, you destroyed the IBM Websphere annual conference in Markham at Hilton with 500 delegates! What is going on?

  • Ouch!

  • Assumes

    Slow here in Sudbury, Ont

  • Assumes

Something I forgot to add, is lately I’ve noticed that my iPhone jumps from 3G to edge to 3G to a small o then to 3G and edge. I always thought it was rogers doing some sort or work or upgrades on the network. It’s very annoying. I’m starting to beleve they are not what they claim to be “the most relaible network in Canada”. Fix it right Rogers. Were paying with our limbs for this service. Move your ass.

  • Super Slow in Quebec City today also although it was still reliable (no lost of service, full bars). Thing is, I don’t think it’s a 3G problem or an antenna problem. It’s more like a networking problem. It’s like if someone at Rogers put a cap on the download and upload speeds on a switch or something… I really hope it gets resolved soon …

Speeds : DL : 1.04 Mbps UL : 0.56 Mbps (Just done the test, it was worse earlier in the day)

  • Montreal

Thanks for posting, saw it on RFD and went here to read more about this.

Called *611 , chose technical support option, described issue of low speed, was transferred to Technical Support person 2, was told an email was sent to Technical support about problems in Montreal area on Tuesday night Sept 14….

I was told I could call Customer service and ask for a credit on 3G data, depending on how many hours/days the problem will take before being solved.

I see this as an opportunity to get credits on my bill.

  • Bdunn

Been having slow speeds for about three days in Cambridge Ontario.

  • Joma309

Just did a 3G speed test here in Winnipeg; I’m getting consistent speeds ranging between 560kbps – 610kbps. Not too bad I suppose….

  • Artur

Yup same here, on the Fido network in the GTA. Slowed down to a crawl….

Very slow on fido, I have an iPhone 4.

  • weezy

Very slow on the fido network here in the Toronto area, iPhone 4 user as well.

Fido in London with 2 bars, iphone 3gs – 2.19mbit down, .19 up. Seems pretty normal to me. Noticed my Roger’s Home internet going from 1000kb/sec to 3000kb/sec randomly

  • Justin

    Slow in Vancouver!

  • Fungilation

rogers back to normal in vancouver, and incredibly since i just got the iphone 4, now getting 4 mbps down 2 mbps up (vs. 3 mbps down 0.25 mbps up with iphone 3GS, rogers also). That’s more upload bw than Shaw xtreme-i (1 mbps up). Shows how handicapped broadband is.

  • Stevestjs

Glad to find this post! I reset my network settings and then did a full restore. Then booked the iPhone in at my local apple store to be looked at all before finding this post.

  • 3G speed is back in Montreal (4.61 Mbps download and 3.52 Mbps upload)

  • okie….. i thought it was only me got bad luck today….

it was super slow around noon to 2:30 pm in vancouver. i was searching something on google… and nothing came up. my original thought was it was google server’s fault…… and till 5:30pm it was kind of resumed……

  • Barrettneil

Things are back up in Belleville area again. I heard they were upgrading the network. Would be nice if they would send out a notice when they do this.

  • TM_Rod

I’m on an iPhone 4 with iOs 4.0.1. I live near the Barrie area and work in the GTA.

The 3G network was slow the past few days, but hit a low yesterday. Wasn’t sure what the problem was, but decided I’d wait a few days before jumping to any conclusions. I’m glad people posted about this so we are not all in the dark.

  • Erikpomerleau

I’m in Montreal and all of a sudden, I’m now back to normal speed and browsing… Will continue to test and let you know …

  • Sylvainfluet

Seems ok this morning in Montreal on the Fido network. I got 1614 kbps while in commuter train on the south shore (Cisco speed test). But yesterday at 4 pm eastern It was not working at all, i wasn’t able to load the Cisco test ! Hope we can get some answers on this major outage.

  • I still find it a little bit slow this morning in Montreal… I’m getting around 1Mbps for download and upload… but at least it seems to be stable at this speed…

  • Anonymous

On the way to work and just topped out at 6mb! Down and 4mb! Up

Could be back to normal? We will see how today plays out

  • Nb

    Windsor Ontario

  • darkside flow

No problems in Toronto here. 5.04Mbps down, 1.08Mbps up.

  • Ip4

I have had no data connection for the past week between 4:00pm-6:00pm on Rogers network on my iPhone 4. Sometimes data will come back between those times for a couple seconds. It’s been really pissing me off.

  • Brendan

My results from the last two days –

    10-9-14 7:15PM; Down 0.86 Mbps; Up 0.00 Mbps; Ping 445 ms
    10-9-14 7:16PM; Down 0.44 Mbps; Up 0.13 Mbps; Ping 297 ms
    10-9-15 10:00AM; Down 5.88 Mbps; Up 0.94 Mbps; Ping 141 ms

Still not great (other than the download speed this morning)

  • Clara

I’m in Toronto and it’s so slow that my phone just pops up with errors like “a network error has occured” anytime I try to open “marketplace” or “my account” or just an internet browser.

  • socrdiva11

I’ve heard the same thing about the network upgrade. It’s not only affecting iPhones…its been affecting anyone with a 3G capable phone, as my boyfriend’s Nexus One has been stupidly slow the last few days just as my iP4 has been….hopefully it’s better now

  • Dave

3G data hasn’t been working on my iPhone 4 since late yesterday afternoon. Sometimes I can get data going through when I switch to EDGE. Still going on this morning and compared it with a friend who as a 3GS and is having the same problems.

  • Amsterdave

My data on 3G is not working at all now, but if I switch off 3G i get data at EDGE speeds…

  • I am by Pearson Airport here in Toronto – couldn’t get a 3G connection to work all morning. Restarted the phone, then things were working a-ok again.

    What the hell Rogers ?!

I’m going to miss an important meeting over Skype because of your cr4ppy network.

    Damn you !!

  • Anonymous

I am in Kelowna and last night it was terrible – a snails pace. Haven’t tried today yet.

  • Clcc13

Still really slow in Edmonton on fido, only getting 2mbps down and 0.94 Mbps up.

  • Lozion

Real slow in Montreal right now. Not even 1 Mbps dl…

  • Dee

Had no connection at all in Toronto this morning just restarted the iPhone seems to be connecting now but its still really slow

  • Accordtr

Yeah last few days in Winnipeg have been hit or miss. I have had ultra ultra slow 3G and then drove to another part of the city and it was fine.

  • Ve2

Fido in Gatineau (Hull) Wed Sep 15 17h00 Download: 1.42 Mbps, Upload: 0.21 Mbps, Ping: 0.505 sec

    Signal Strenght: 3 bars

  • Erikpomerleau

Once again it slowed down in the middle of the afternoon … I’m in Montreal and it was fine from this morning to 3PM. no more browsing and very poor Internet …

  • Whiterhino14

My service got so bad last week that I quit Rogers and went to Bell. Sadly I had to pay those yahoo’s 450.00 bucks to get out of my contract but luckily I bought my Iphone 4 unlocked so I didn’t get nailed on buying a new IPhone 4. ( No more contracts for me, I don’t care if they give away a free pony) I called Rogers several times asking why their service seemed to be having so many problems over the past 3-4 months and they kept insisting nothing was wrong yet all my coworkers were having the same troubles I was. My Bell is rocking with better sound quality, better signal and more bars and no dropped calls. Glad I made the move.

  • Steve_Andrews

Rogers very little service Toronto to Ottawa. No data, no phone, no text. In Ottawa 15 minutes from parliament in Gatineau same thing. Major issues. Is it software update for iPhone and Rogers network that came out this week. Only reason connecting is because of wifi

  • Erikpomerleau

Spoke with Rogers and they told me that they were doing “maintenance” on the network … Be patient they’re working on it ……….. This is very intermittent to me and really hope they’ll complete whatever “maintenance” they do …

  • Guest

I just test my speed here in Calgary and can report that I am running at 0.00 Mbps

  • Sorpano141

Back to normal for me in Montreal today.

  • Erikpomerleau

Hopefully it won’t go down again this afternoon …

  • Steve_andrews

Sept 16th 6am Ottawa area – still inconsistent phone, text and data service. No service while along Ottawa river 15 mins from parliament but seems to kick back in when in central areas. Experienced same yesterday in Toronto, Belleville, Kingston etc. basically had service only when right in the city. could not even make a phone call on the corridor from Torornto to Ottawa

Had the same problem Monday and Tuesday. Sometimes the speed test showed (barely) acceptable down and up speeds but the latency was brutal: several tests had ping times of 50 to 65 *seconds*!

Tech support told me to reset network settings Tuesday night, which I did. Didn’t seem to have any effect at first, but 30 minutes later things were humming along fine and have been since.

  • Sandy

Sucks yet again in Ottawa. This is getting old really fast Rogers!

  • Erikpomerleau

Everyday since Monday now, the network is not useable ! In Montreal and speeds were nice ( 2.8mbps down/3 up) and at 3 it dropped and is still unacceptable ( 0.03mbps down /0.28 up)

What are they waiting for ?????

  • Barrettneil

It’s happening again today. Pages not loading, email taking forever to check. Wish they’d pipe up and let us know what’s going on.
    Maybe it’s solar flares!

  • Erikpomerleau

They’d save so many bad critics and publicity by being honnest. It’s so ridiculous that it’s like a server that gets full during the morning and gets rebooted during the night. Everything is “normal” for me in the morning …

  • Danjaf

Been slow in Ottawa all week. Upload is still really fast at 1-2.5 mbits/s. Download still brutal at 1mbps. The browsing speeds are slower than 1 Mbps and I suspect there is an MTU problem in Rogers core network.

Can anyone suggest a good place to complain to Rogers tech support without calling one of their hired morons?

  • Anonymous

was almost unusable for most of the day in Winnipeg yesterday. good to know it’s not just me at least.

  • Im in Toronto and I’ve been getting around 100 kbps when I have -60db signal. That’s like 5 bars.
I usually get at least 1 Mbps. Something’s definitely up still. I can’t take it. I can’t stream anything.

  • Erikpomerleau

I had called Rogers on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and left them “working” as they told me yesterday.

They called me back today saying that their “Maintenance” was done. I tested every hours since 2 ( Eastern time ) and I have normal speeds ( 5.24Mbps Down/2.60Mbps Up ) and it’s working FINE after 4 days of nightmare and impossible browsing.

I’ve tested it in Montreal, Laval and Boucherville … all have good and reliable speeds.

  • Erikpomerleau

According to Rogers, the network should be back to normal since 2PM … I wonder if it was just for Montreal or if you’re okay too …

  • Djchunt

What is the point in having a 6gb monthly allowance if u can only download at speeds of less than 1mb? Good marketing by Rogers. (Vancouver)

  • SteveK

Still issues in Calgary on Sept 17. Can’t even break 1 Mbps.

  • Dogz

This still isn’t fixed! I’m in Ottawa and we have 2 iphones, and ipad and just bought my mom an ipad on the rogers network and they all are deadly slow. The ipads can be switched to Bell of course, but they had better do something about the it…I wish someone could let us know what’s going on!

    Hello

Can anyone tell me what the download and upload speeds should be for the Rogers 3g network, testing with Speed Test. Thanks

  • Luka

I’m with Telus but I remember a few days ago I had a 1 MB per second speed. It’s fine now, though

  • Danjaf

    around 200ms should be fine.

download still too slow in Ottawa – still 1 Mbps

I am 20 km north of Kingston, Ontario and use the Rogers Rocket Hub (3G) for home phone and internet. The data/ internet is SO bad over the past several weeks that it is unusable … very, very frustrating. I logged a support request with Rogers, but no resolution after almost a week. Three of my neighbours use the Rogers Rocket Stick and are also experiencing this debilitating slowness and extreme frustration. Arlene

  • Hunt969

I have done speedtest with this http://reviews.cnet.com/internet-speed-test/ and am getting speeds less then dial-up sometimes. How can they keep people in a 2 year contract with this going on!!!!!!

  • Xman

what the hell is going on with Rogers, I have been having this issue for almost 3 weeks now. it is so damn slow, ping around 450ms and up and download does not even reach 500Kbps(0.5Mbps) I’m in Toronto. anybody else still having the issue?

  • Doug

RE Dropped Calls or Failed calls in the Calgary area, September 22, 2010 Rogers told me here in Calgary to drop my 3G service to 2G and then things would work. It does, but my contact with Rogers is for the use 3G not 2G in a service. We should all think of what we are paying for and hold them accountable. What Rogers is doing is blaming it on the individual phone not the service. That way they have a delay long enough that the use like you and me are just a fly on the wall and no one will know. Fells like the system is overloaded and unable to cope with the services they have sold to all of us.

I agree. It’s still crap here in Ottawa. I use my iphone to tether alot to my laptop at work, and yesterday around 4 pm I could not even do my banking. I’ve been doing numerous speed tests and it’s all over the place…most of the time really bad. I have written rogers to ask what is going on. I suspect they don’t want to admit the network is either being worked on or overloaded as they don’t want to lose customers.

Hi…Have problems with service on both apple and blackberry, Not receiving calls, I can’t dial out? I received a text messages that I received a call. This slow snail problem has been going on for weeks.
Why is that they can provide bad service without informing customers…but we can’t be late paying our bills?
I am tired of paying for bad service…Can someone please provide customer service.

I am a small business owner in Barrie, Ontario. After several calls to Rogers on Thursday and Friday this week I was finally told that the whole 3G system in Southern Ontario had been down since Thursday. Very bad for business, I have a hub at the store and I have my debit machine connected to the hub. The hub does not work because of the 3G network being down. Rogers did not tell me this until my 4th or 5th call to them. Shame on them for not being up front. Today (Saturday) still no service for iphones or hub.

  • bluetang

It’s sooo slow in vancouver. Anyone still have issue?

I’m having issues in Toronto. iPhone 4 — 4 bars — PAINFULLY slow data! Has there been any update or information found on this? There’s a whole slew of discussions on the apple forums from back in june/july on the iphone 4 3g data-related issues.

  • Ace

Very slow in Ontario as well!! WTF!!!

  • St Alphonzo

Rogers has over sold the bandwidth in my area.(Cobourg Ont.)…can be the only cause for the horrrible data rates during the day.
If I preform a speed test during the middle of the day, say, 200pm…i’ll get pings in the thousands, download rates of 2-7 Kb/s, 1-2 Kb/s upload..
do the same test @ 430am and the network is just fine…pings of 100ms, d/l rates of 700+ Kb/s and upload rates just as good…this is an issue that has been getting worse since july 2010….It happens everyday and I’m ready to snap right out
    EPIC SERVICE FAIL

  • Rustybarnacle

Does anyone know if this is currently a problem. At home in Port Moody I have on average 3-4 times the average speed in Vancouver. All to often in Van I’m not getting any data through at all.

  • Oumamass Omar

Montreal Van-horn street btween Wilderton and Parcs is the worst area to use Roges’s data network every days. Yous cna not use streaming or browsing in this area . O.O

  • Kmiddleton247

I’m an I.T. here in saskatchewan. Roger’s is capping the download speed on there 3G network for sure.
I have two 7.2 Mb modems that i use for work. Novatel & Brodcom. I used to get 5.8 to 6.2 Mb download on both modems. Now for the the past month or so. I will get from 1.5 to 2.8 Mb on both modems. It doesn’t matter if I’m in a basement or in a building or out side. Its the same thing.

“Rogers doesn’t want you to use the 3G network for a replacement of your home internet.”
“Also Rogers doesn’t want you to use the 3G modem or tethering for downloading large files.”

I’m in Toronto, and I have been experiencing slow down speed for at least the past 5 months. Using SpeedTest.net, I can sometime get 1Mbs otherwise I’ll be lucky to get half of that. FIDO’s technical support team blames in on OS4 of the iPhone, but I do not think that’s true. I get very high ping times, usually over 400ms. Anyone else is having issues with Roger’s or FIDO’s network being slow?

  • Len

Ya. I have had my air card through SASKTEL for about a month now, At first I was getting download speeds over 7 mbs,now I”m under 2, But the weird thing is,I still have uploads of over 3mbs, spent time with there teckies on the phone and they can’t figure it out…………..I think they are throttling and don’t want to say….

3G not working in Burlington at all. Fido advised they were working on the problem and to turn 3G off for the time being. I hope they fix it soon. I now realize I have missed many calls and texts today and I use this for business.
