Update: Rogers July Voice and Data Plans for iPhone 3G/3GS

Share:

Below you find the latest Rogers Wireless plans for iPhone 3G/3GS for July 2009. The information below will not include the specifically labeled “iPhone 3G plans” from Rogers that cost $60 and $75 per month because when compared to the other plans, they do not offer a good enough value.

Please note that these plans will be reflective of Rogers Wireless and there are five sections below detailing individual regions (prices vary between regions):

1.) BC/ALBERTA REGION

2.) MIDWEST REGION

3.) ONTARIO REGION

4.) QUEBEC REGION

5.) ATLANTIC REGION

Note: The below plans only affect new customers signing up for Rogers Service. They also affect existing customers changing their price plans.

As of April 7, 2009, all new acquisitions on a 3 year contract will only receive one (1) month of unlimited local minutes (“Freedom of Speech”) as opposed to 3 months, as it was in the past. If you are getting a separate data plan or a data plan combo plan (No term or 1/2/3 year term), as of June 2, 2009 you will receive two (2) months unlimited data usage (“Data Usage Bonus”), as opposed to 3 months as it was in the past.

Also note, as of April 16, 2009, the $17.50 EPP Plan was increased in price to $20.00. Also, as of July 3, the evening clock was increased from 6PM to 9PM. All of the other advertised features within this plan are the same.

whyw ould they be doing this JUST before telus makes the GSM upgrade? Are they that stupid? You would think they would try to PLEASE the customers.
I mean sure, They probably dominate the market right now with cell phones because of the iPhone. But what happens when telus and Bell start switching over. Is Rogers all of a sudden going to go.. “oh hey! We were just joking. ha ha.”

For the Ontario EPP plan, this post says the upgrade price is $399 for the 16GB 3GS and $499 for the 32GB however I was absolutely certain the prices were $449 and $549. Is this an error or is there something I’m missing? I got the 3G in July last year and have had only a voice plan ever since…

Wow, I’m glad I got my plan last month. The 6PM early evenings that was previously included in the EPP makes a huge difference. I would hate to have to pay an extra 7$ a month just to get that.

Canada/ Roger plans are so expensive compared to any other Country. What can we or I do to get a better rate?

Ah okay that explains the $50 difference in price I observed.
Also Shawn the main reason I can tell that Rogers and Canadian carriers tend to be more expensive is based completely on population density. Canada is very large with a relatively low population density, meaning that carriers would have to set up and maintain a lot of towers for a relatively small number of users. That’s one of the reasons our rates are high (that and Rogers does not yet have any significant GSM competition).

Further proof of this comes when looking at rates in countries like Bangladesh which have incredibly high population densities resulting in per minute rates of less than 1 cent.

Haha, Nick, I was so worried about the same thing! Imagine if after doing all of your research and talking to CSRs they could just change your plan or remove features.. That would be the icing on the cake for them! As far as I understand the terms of our contracts can’t be changed as long as they are signed for (3 years for iPhone users).

Well thank god for small miracles. So then does it work to just keep renewing the contract before it ends? I have a pretty good plan which I don’t really want to lose…

    $25 350 mins free after 6
    $30 6gig
    vvm texting etc
    Rogers to Rogers

I’m not sure if it works to keep renewing, although I’m guessing after 3 years they should be trying to give you a deal to continue with them, so I doubt they’d oppose letting you keep your plan, even if prices have increased.

That 25$ 350 min free after 6 plan does sound good. The best I could get was the EPP plan, which was 200 and free after 6 and weekends (not anymore).

  • Where have you gotten these details?
I live in Halifax, NS, and there exists no $35 plan. About a month ago, there was, but several Rogers locations agree that such a price just doesn’t exist?
I just came from a Rogers Plus, to maybe switch to this plan, but there’s apparently no such thing…?

The plan is national. Maybe you should instruct those reps.

Here it is on the Rogers Nova Scotia site for reference:

  • Sorry- my mistake. I thought the $35 plan you spoke of included voice, not as an addition to a voice plan.
Just keepin’ ya on your toes!
You really should be getting a paycheck from Rogers; you guys are far more helpful & knowledgeable!

  • So the price for no data plan (voice plan under 30.01) on the 3G was a $50 increase, but the 3GS is going to be a $200 increase?

Wow, I am supposed to pick up my 32GB tomorrow. My area only has Edge, no 3G network, so I didn't plan on getting a data plan until they upgraded, but for $200 extra I may just wait on this purchase.

  • I tried so many places, Rogers still won't sell me the new iPhone 3GS or even the old iPhone 3G without data plan. Help ! How can I get the iPhon without the data plan ?? I'm in Vancouver, Lower main land. I tried Store in Burnaby, Surrey none of them will let me to have the new iPhone without the data plan.

Currently I'm having my dummy cell into my 2nd year contract, next Aug will be full 3 year contract I can't wait till another year help please !

  • You can only get the 3G without a data plan.

    The 3GS must have data.

  • Are you sure about that? My store would have sold to me without data today but the price would have been upped by $200 so I passed on it. My area only has EDGE and not 3G so maybe that has something to do with it?

  • If you want to pay promotional pricing for the iPhone 3GS, you are getting a data plan. Without a data plan, its $200 more, as I have listed above.
