Rumours are flying that Apple will unveil its latest mobile devices this year, supporting 4G/LTE networks. With competing devices on the market already supporting this new, faster technology, it seems highly likely that Apple would want to have the iPhone and the iPad on these faster networks.
Canada Newswire posted today, that Telus Communications is investing $3 Billion in British Columbia over the next three years, with a portion of that going towards expanding their 4G/LTE coverage in BC, in 2012. They currently have 4g/LTE in Vancouver, but it is about to hit many more cities all over BC. Here’s an excerpt from Canada Newswire’s report:
Extend its new 4G LTE wireless network from Vancouver to more than four million British Columbians in 20 communities this year alone – close to 90 per cent of the province’s population. This year, TELUS will extend service to Burnaby, Delta, North Vancouver, Richmond, Coquitlam, Langley, Maple Ridge, Surrey/White Rock, Hope, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Victoria, Whistler, Nanaimo, Kamloops, Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon, Prince George, and Dawson Creek, with more to come over the next few years if TELUS is able to secure the necessary wireless spectrum through Industry Canada’s upcoming spectrum auctions. 4G LTE is the most advanced, fastest wireless technology available in the world today.
Could this be another indication that Apple is indeed introducing 4G/LTE products this year, or is it just Telus growing with new technology? Either way, growth is good. We’ll find out more about Apple’s intentions to support 4g/LTE on March 7th, when they officially announce the next iPad.
