Koodo on VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling: “Details to Come Soon” [u]

Last fall, Telus flanker brand Koodo Mobile confirmed it was testing VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, with the launch date unspecified at the time.

VoLTE allows calls to made over the LTE network for improved call quality and faster connections, while Wi-Fi Calling allows users to send and receive calls/texts in areas of low cellular connectivity, but over over Wi-Fi.

Fast forward five months later, and Koodo customers are still waiting for the rollout of VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling. However, an update appears to be coming soon, according to the Koodo Community Forums.

Prominent Koodo forum reps have started replying to customers over recent weeks an update to VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling is coming soon.

The most recent reply from a week ago to a customer query was answered with “details to come soon”, while a question from four weeks ago was answered with “details for both are to come in a few weeks.

Eager Koodo Mobile customers are anticipating the launch of VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling, since rivals Rogers/Fido and Bell/Virgin already have these features available, and parent company Telus.

We’ve reached out to Koodo Mobile for clarification on the launch, but if these forum replies are any indication, VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling support should be out sometime this spring.

Update: According to a Koodo spokesperson via email, we were told the company is “close” to launching VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling by “next month”. Stay tuned.

Update April 4, 2018: Koodo has launched Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE.
