Kelowna, B.C. – TELUS has opened a new wireless world for consumers in Kelowna with the launch of Canada’s largest 3G+ wireless network.

The new network offers TELUS customers one of the fastest wireless broadband Internet services in the world, allowing TELUS to bring them the coolest wireless handsets on the planet through local TELUS dealers and through telusmobility.com. Covering 1.1 million square kilometres, the TELUS network also extends high-speed Internet service to about 2,100 communities and neighbourhoods in B.C. and Alberta that never had it before. Customers can now use a TELUS wireless Internet key with their computer to access blazing-fast Internet anywhere they can use a TELUS wireless device.

Locally, TELUS invested $5.2 million in Kelowna as part of its $600 million investment in its wireless and broadband infrastructure across B.C. in 2009. With TELUS’ new advanced wireless network, customers in Kelowna can experience high speed Internet access with dramatically faster download times for webpages, emails, songs, and movies for the first time.

TELUS offers a number of exciting new devices that make the perfect gifts for the holiday season, including the iconic iPhone 3GS, the HTC Hero and the Sierra 306 Mobile Internet key. The Sierra key is the fastest wireless Internet modem available, providing the best browsing, downloading and uploading experiences for consumer and mobile professionals who need and enjoy broadband speeds on a laptop. It’s manufacturer-rated for peak data download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second.

In addition to its new network and devices, TELUS has introduced new simplified rate plans without the system access fee. These ‘Clear Choice’ plans are easy to understand and what you see is what you pay. The plans will save customers a few dollars each month, and includes voicemail.

TELUS’ new wireless network is based on HSPA+ technology, the most advanced in the world. TELUS placed HSPA+ technology on all its towers across Canada. It still operates its existing great networks, including one based on technology known as CDMA and TELUS’ Mike network with push-to-talk capabilities. TELUS plans to continue supporting both the CDMA and Mike networks in addition to its new HSPA network for the foreseeable future, providing TELUS customers the full choice of wireless solutions that best suits their needs.
