In the aftermath of the riot in Vancouver after game seven of the Stanley Cup final, Vancouver recognized many citizens who attempted to protect the city against the onslaught of hooligans. One of those good citizens is Chris Ivany.
Chris Ivany, a 33-year-old welder who was in downtown Vancouver during the chaos, saw rioters attempting to break into the Telus retail store on Robson Street. In an amazing show of courage, he tried to prevent further damage to the store by telling the crowd to stop the destruction.
Unfortunately, his bravery landed him a punch in the jaw and he was knocked unconscious, but the Telus store was saved. Based on his efforts, Telus has come forth to reward Chris.
Telus has now rewarded Chris with a free iPhone, six months of free service and a donation of $1,000 to the charity of his choice. Chris has no prior connection to Telus and is not a customer; he simply wanted to defend his city.
Naturally, Chris was surprised by the gift. However, he recently signed up with a competing carrier and purchased a Blackberry.
A Telus spokesperson said that Telus wanted to thank him for his courage and for making a positive difference during the downtown Vancouver event.
