Quebecor-owned Videotron has continued along its road to success and reported a strong first quarter, according to an earnings report released by its parent company. Videotron increased its quarterly revenue from mobile services by 22.8%, or CAD$26.5 million, and added a significant number of new postpaid subscribers.
“Videotron, which is now positioned as one of the leading mobile carriers in Québec, posted another excellent performance”, noted Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor. “The steady uptrend in Videotron’s numbers has been driven by its high-growth products and services, led by mobile telephony, Internet access, business solutions and Club illico.”
Looking back over the 12 months ending March 31, 2017, Manon Brouillette, President and Chief Executive Officer of Videotron said that Videotron had added 125,200 new subscribers, a 15.7% increase year-over-year.
The key metric of a carrier’s performance, ARPU, was $52.64 in the first quarter of 2017, up 6% year-over-year, Brouillette added.
During the first quarter of 2017, Videotron added 27,000 new wireless subscribers.
The telco has been in the CRTC’s spotlight recently: The regulator issued a ruling against Videotron’s Unlimited Music service, saying that it supports a “fair marketplace in which internet services providers compete on their network elements (price, quality of service, speeds, data allowance and better service offerings), not by treating certain content differently.”
