Just as you would turn your iPhone to landscape mode in any application, you can turn your home screen to landscape mode. Scrolling through all your pages works exactly the same, just in landscape mode!

This tweak is the perfect addition to any iPad Theme, including my own “Simple iPad Theme”, that is on Cydia right now. With the release of the iPad UI Theme coming soon, we’ll have little mini iPads before you know it! i should mention that you will need to have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS to get this tweak.

SpringBoard Rotator works with other springboard tweaks, such as Infiniboard, Iconoclasm, Shrink, Five Column Springboard, Five Icon Dock, and more.

According to limneos’s Twitter feed, he will have a beta ready in couple of days, and hopefully release in less than 2 weeks!

Here’s a video of this new tweak in action:

It was recently reported that Apple has started pulling all WiFi finder apps from the App Store, due to an issue with an undocumented, private API being used in some of these apps. Developer Aspecto Software has decided to go the jailbreak route, and release their app, WiFiFoFum in Cydia, for Free.

This comes just 2 weeks after Apple pulled all the “boob” apps from the App Store, claiming they wanted to keep the App Store more family oriented. This is a huge blow to developers who have relied on these sales to keep their companies going. WiFiFoFum sold for $2.99 when it was in the App Store.

WiFiFoFum is a great app for finding WiFi, anywhere around you. It uses the iPhones Location API, to figure out where you are, then scans the surrounding area for WiFi networks. You have a live list of the closest hotspots, a map of the area showing more know hotspots, and a cool “radar” more that shows your orientation to these hotspots. There are many more features included, so if you don’t already have this from the App Store, and your device is jailbroken, there is no reason not to get it now.

Jailbroken iPhone users will continue to benefit from this behavior from Apple. As these companies are pushed out of the App store, they really only have one place to go: Cydia or Rock (I guess that’s 2 places ).Some developers with probably modify their apps, and resubmit them to Apple, but the easiest thing to do is turn to the dark side!

At CES 2010, L5 Technologies announced their “L5 Remote“, for iPhone and iPod Touch. It is a universal remote control for the iPhone and iPod Touch, that will control any IR (infrared) device in your home. A small IR transmitter peripheral plugs in to the dock connector of your Apple touch device, and an app does the rest. You are able to program up to 1000 devices into the app, with a simple “learning” feature. Anything that uses an infrared remote control (which is just about any media device in your home) will be able to be controlled by your iPhone. TV, DVR, cable set top box, DVD, audio receivers, XBOX 360, Bluray, VCR….the list is just about endless.

Here’s some official features and specs from their website:

Powerful enough to replace a coffee table full of remotes.

Drag and drop to design the remote you want.

Keep the buttons you use. Delete the ones you don’t.

Quick and easy setup of activities and macros.

Intuitive app for iPhone and iPod touch.

No batteries, no WiFi, no wall plug needed.

100,000 button/1000 remote capacity.

With the L5 Remote, you have the power of a whole coffee table full of remotes with the elegance and simplicity of your iPhone or iPod touch. Out with the clutter and confusion, and in with everything you love about your iPhone or iPod touch: the sharp, brilliant display, the Multi-Touch interface, the versatility and portability. The L5 remote is a tiny accessory and app that gives you all the power and none of the complexity. It works without WiFi, external power, or batteries. Take it anywhere you want. Use it to control your TV, cable box, DVD, DVR, and most devices that come with an IR remote.

Plug in the accessory and tap a button to download the free app. Quickly and easily design your first custom remote by dragging and dropping any buttons you want, then ‘assign’ a signal to each by pressing the corresponding button on your old remote while pointing it at your new L5 Remote. The L5 Remote intelligently analyzes the signal and stores it in your iPhone or iPod Touch. You can program all your remotes in just minutes.

Want to check it out first? Download the free app from iTunes and design your dream remote. Discover how easy it is. If you like what you’ve designed, buy the accessory to bring your design to life.

Once you’re using your L5 Remote, you can stash the old remotes, and enjoy the convenience and simplicity of using your iPhone to control all your entertainment and home automation devices.

The device that plugs into your iPhone is quite small. It is about the size of the dock connector end, of your iPhone’s USB cable. It measures 1.22 x .83 x .40 inches, and weighs 0.14oz. It is simply the transmitter and has no buttons. It is powered by the iPhone’s battery, but an IR transmitter barely uses any power at all, so there is no worries of the device draining your iPhone’s battery.

The hardware is expected to cost just $49.95, when it is released, and the accompanying app will be a free download, from the App Store. In fact, you will be able to download the app, before you purchase the L5 Remote, and play with the remote control layouts, macros, etc, to see if it is right for you. Then when you purchase the device, your all ready to go. To use the app, your device must be on iPhone OS 3.0, or later.

The L5 Remote was supposed to be released in February, of this year, in the US and Canada, but no official date has been given yet. The CEO of L5 Technologies, Wade McNary, posted this on their website, just 2 days ago, in response to a question left in their comment section:

The product is ready and we’re awaiting final approvals. Expect it within a few weeks. The people who signed our NOTIFY ME list, will be the first 20,000 to know! Thank you, James and everyone else that’s excited about the L5 Remote. Nobody is more anxious than we are!

If you go to their website now, you can sign up to be notified, when the L5 Remote will be available.

There are some similar products and apps on the horizon, from NewKinetix and TotalControl, but the L5 Remote seems to be the one to look out for, for convenience and value.

Thanks for reading, everyone! You can also read more rorypiper, over and Green Candy, and you can follow me on the ‘ole Twitter.

Well, MeDevil, the creators of “iBluetooth” for iPhone OS 2.x.x, have released “iBlueNova”, for iPhone OS 3.x.x, which allows you to transfer ANY file from/to your jailbroken iPhone, over Bluetooth.

iBlueNova uses the “BT Stack” mod, to really open up your Bluetooth to transfer any file on your iPhone. Photos, music, video, ringtones, plus any file from your root folders. Sending a file is really easy. Just open up iBluenova, and tap the enable button. Choose your file and tap the “Send” icon. iBlueNova will then search for any available Bluetooth devices. Make sure your receiving device is discoverable, then choose it from the list, and away it goes.

On the receiving end, you will have to accept the incoming transfer. On a Mac, you will see something like this:

On another iPhone, you will see this:

One drawback, when receiving most files on your iPhone, is the files are not automatically imported to your camera roll or iPod app. Most files can only be transferred to: private/var/mobile/Media/Downloads. You will have to manage your downloaded files with programs like DiskAid, or via OpenSSH and your FTP program of choice. In the settings, you can enable photos to be saved to your camera roll.

iBlueNova is a very useful file transfer tool, but the price is a little steep, for a Cydia app. It’ll cost you $5.99 USD. If this is a feature you have been craving, then it may be worth it for you.

Here’s a quick demo of me transferring a wallpaper from an iPhone 3GS to an iPhone 3G, with iBlueNova:

Have you been looking for an alternative to Mobile Safari, for browsing the web on your iPhone? Take a look at “iDroid Mini Browser”. Typically, when we hear about a new browser for the iPhone, that is somewhat based another mobile platform, it would only be available in Cydia, for jailbroken iPhones. Well, some how, this one slipped past the app checker guys, and is now available for free, in the App Store.

Here’s some of the features of iDroid Mini Browser, as described in the App Store:

iDroid Mini Browser is an innovative browser designed specifically for the iPhone.Inspired by iPhone’s Safari,Android browser and Opera min. A definitely must have for all iPhone and iPod Touch users!

Features:
● Interactive Tab browsing:
Innovative tab browsing designed only for the iPhone. The active tab is shown by green light. When the web browser is loading, the green light will blink.

● Full Screen Browsing:
Want to enjoy web pages in full screen? There is NO button for that… Simply rotate you iPhones/iPod Touches to landscape

● Advanced caching algorithm:
Ensures fast loading of websites!

● Preview Tab:
A real comfortable way to take a peek at other tab while staying on the current tab. Tap and hold any inactive tab to preview.

● Smart Url:
The smart url is inspired by google chrome. Suggestions from Google.com appear as user type the url. It saves time and makes browsing experience better.

● Quick Links (Visual favourites):
Inspired by many leading browser, apparently this feature is currently missing. In iDroid Mini Browser, user can add their own Quick Links to access their favorite website very quickly!

● Sleek graphic:
Meticulously designed UI for more pleasant experience. Many of the UI is inspired by other famous browsers, but has been carefully designed to fit the iPhone perfectly.

I found that the browser works quite well. Bookmarks and quick-links were easy to set up. The tabbed browsing is really nice, being able to see the names of the sites you have tabbed. The speed of the browser was really great for iPhone optimized sites, but I found it a bit sluggish for regular web viewing.

Apple released firmware 3.1.3 for the iPhone and iPod Touch on Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Instantly, the Dev-Team reacted and warned everyone not to upgrade to firmware 3.1.3 if they wanted to keep their iPhone or iPod Touch Jailbroken and Unlock. Dev-Team announced today the release of Pwnage Tool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X, which enables you to preserve your Jailbreak and Unlock.

I recommend everyone to read the below posting from the Dev-Team before attempting to use PwnageTool 3.1.5 or upgrading your firmware to 3.1.3.

On Tuesday, Apple released firmware 3.1.3 for the iPhone and iPod touches. Unless you’ve personally observed a problem with the reporting of your battery percentage, there’s no reason to update to 3.1.3. We know some of you will want to anyway. Superbowl Sunday’s PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X will let you do so safely, preserving your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock. (If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2.)

iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware. This is no exception. If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.

If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom. If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more.

You don’t need to be pre-jailbroken on anything but the iPod touch 2G early bootrom. And really for that device, it’s faster and easier to use redsn0w 0.9.4 as mentioned in our last post. For that matter, if you have an ipt1g, iphone2g, or iphone3g(and don’t need an unlock), you should use redsn0w too (but version 0.9.3). It’s faster and you won’t have to go through a full restore process (just do an update then run redsn0w, pointing it at 3.1.2 FW instead of 3.1.3).

If you have an iPhone 3GS, PwnageTool works if you’re currently at version 3.1.2 or below (down to 3.0). You don’t need to be already jailbroken — PwnageTool will ask you if you’re jailbroken after you’ve created the IPSW. Don’t use PwnageTool on the iPhone 3GS if you’re at 3.1.3, it just won’t work. Downgrade to 3.1.2 using the methods described here. If you can’t downgrade because you don’t have your 3GS 3.1.2 hashes on file with Cydia, you’ll need to sit out the 3.1.3 jailbreak.

We aren’t revealing any new exploits to Apple with this jailbreak. Everything here has been used before, it’s just a straightforward port of Pwnage2 and 24Kpwn to the new firmware. It’s possible the new firmware was released largely to flush out new exploits before the next big release. We won’t be biting.

We’d really like the above warnings and disclaimers to sink in. Please don’t download the files below and use them blindly.

Please feel free to ask any questions in the comment section below. We’ve got a bunch of expert help there, including our friendly moderators confucious and angie!

Earlier today Apple released iPhone firmware 3.1.3 and as usual, jailbreakers beware. At the same time, the iPhone Dev Team issued warnings to avoid the update if you want to have the ability to jailbreak and/or unlock your iPhone/iPod Touch.

A few hours later, the iPhone Dev Team announced some fantastic news. The iPhone 2G, 3G, and iPod Touch 1G can be jailbroken on firmware 3.1.3 using redsn0w 0.9!

Check out the following updates from the Dev Team:

Update 1: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Thanks to daring experimenters in the comments, we can confirm that yesterday’s redsn0w works for today’s 3.1.3 update for iPhone 2G. Just point it at the 3.1.2 iPhone 2G IPSW after doing update or restore to 3.1.3. So far we’ve only confirmed this for iPhone 2G. (Note that if this does work for iPhone 3G too, you can *only* use it if you don’t care about the unlock.)

Update 2: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] Can confirm that this method works for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 1G too. Don’t do it for iPhone 3G if you need an unlock though (really, don’t!). For older iPod touch 2G, we’ll need a small (1-character) change in redsn0w source.

Update 3: [Don’t go near this if you have 3GS, newer ipt2G, or any ipt3G] For those with older (non-MC) iPod touch 2G, we’ve compiled a special version of redsn0w meant just for you: Mac and Windows. You guys can get in on the “3.1.2 loophole” too using this special version. Don’t try this if you have a newer iPod Touch 2G or if you’re not completely sure what version you have. And of course don’t try it for 3GS or ipt3G either.

That about does it for the 3.1.2 redsn0w loophole. It can only be used by: those who don’t need the 3G/3GS unlock, and only owners of iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G (not unlockers!), iPod 1G, and iPod 2G older version. Everyone else please wait for official support in the tools.

To summarize:
