Kickstarter Project: Cellhelmet, The Most Protective iPhone 4/4S Case Ever Made [VIDEO]

A new Kickstarter project for supposedly the most protective iPhone 4/4S case ever made has been recently initiated by cellpig.com. Called the cellhelmet, the case promises to offer more protection for your iPhone than any other case in the world and actually comes with a 1 year accidental damage insurance for your handset (water damage excluded).

As described by the manufacturers, “Drop it. Throw it. Step on it. If your iPhone 4/4S breaks inside of a cellhelmet – you’re covered.” All you need to do is register your cellhelmet case within 30 days of its purchase. All US & Canadian residents are eligible for the insurance.

The Cellhelmet will retail for $44 once the pledged goal of $10,000 is reached on Kickstarter.

The ‘Breastie’: An iPhone Case Shaped Like a Breast to Fundraise for Cancer Research

Here’s one way to sell some iPhone cases–make them shaped like breasts? Julio Ojeda-Zapata from the Pioneer Press reports on one local man in Minnesota taking his iPhone cases to another level to raise money for breast cancer research.

The “Breastie” iPhone case has the back part shaped like a breast, which is supposed to enable a better ‘grip’. Cases are available in black or pink and retail for $20. Sounds like this is a great cause–except users will look like creeps out in public.

Mark this down as your strange iPhone story of the day. I wonder what similar iPhone cases would look like to support prostate cancer research (don’t answer that)?

I’ve tried numerous iPhone stands over the years, and my biggest complaint has always been having to take the case off the phone for it to fit properly. That was until I found the H1 Touch from Luxa2.

Not only does the stand look like something Apple might make, but its design allows it to be used while your phone is still in a case. It’s thanks to the six legs that move in random to create the custom fit no matter what case is on your phone.

What’s also nice is you can turn it around 360 degrees and tilt the viewing angle up and down to better suit your needs.

Luxa2 also makes a couple of different iPad versions, one of which is the H4. Just a bigger version of the H1.

Here’s a quick review and look at how versatile the H1 and H4 can be.

Not only are these stands versatile, they look good along side your Apple devices.

REVIEW: Mujjo™ Touchscreen Gloves For iPhone & iPad [Hands On Video]

Winter is upon us and majority of us would prefer to keep our gloves on at all times unless we really need to take them off for something like using a capacitive touchscreen device. Yes, that’s true and frankly speaking, it’s not a pleasant experience especially in a scenario when you are driving in extreme cold with your thick woolen gloves on and suddenly your iPhone rings only for you to find out that ‘Slide to Answer’ won’t work unless you take the damn gloves off. It’s a major annoyance in cold climates but apparently, “there’s a glove for that”.

Designed by Mujjo™ in Holland, these capacitive touchscreen gloves are woven throughout with silver-coated conductive fibers which makes them compatible with an iPhone, iPad or any other capacitive touchscreen device. I’ve had the opportunity to personally try a pair of these, thanks to Mujjo™ for sending these in.

For €24.95 (approx. $32.7 CAD), Mujjo™ Touchscreen Gloves come in a minimal packaging (as shown above) and are offered in two sizes, a Small / Medium and a Medium / Large. The website advertises the two sizes as for females and males respectively but they are Unisex gloves nonetheless.

The gloves are made of slightly stretchable material that provides a nice snug fit which helps optimize the contact with your touch screen device as well. The gloves are black in color and are composed up of of 13.5% silver yarn, 66.5% acrylic and 20% spandex.

Mujjo™ Touchscreen Gloves function really great. I’ve had no problem using them with my iPad or iPhone. They even work flawlessly with my Macbook Pro’s trackpad. The best thing about these gloves is that they are sewn throughout with silver thread which allows full 10 finger functionality. You can literally use your knuckles and even the palm of your hand on a touchscreen with these gloves on.

I’ve also noticed that my typing on the iPad’s larger touchscreen with these gloves on wasn’t in any way worse than with my bare fingers.

While the Mujjo™ Touchscreen Gloves are perfect in terms of touchscreen usability, they don’t seem to deal so well with the the extreme cold of a day. Even with these gloves on, I frequently feel the need to use my pockets or blow some hot air into my hands. This is quite unfortunate since keep you hands warm should be the first and foremost purpose of any pair of gloves, isn’t it?

Apart from my only complaint of them being not so cold-resistant, I would gladly recommend a pair of Mujjo™ Touchscreen Gloves to anyone with a touchscreen smartphone living in colder climates, especially to the iPhone owners who don’t have a hardware button option to answer a phone call. With Mujjo™, you won’t need to worry about taking them off to answer one!

Latest Concept From ADR Studios: The iWatch 2 [PICS]

Italian designer Antonia De Rosa, who recently released his concept for the iPhone SJ, is now showing off his imagination and talent for design with a fictional production called the iWatch 2.

Antonia released the original iWatch back in March of 2010 and, much like Apple, he’s already got the iWatch 2 featured on his website.

As usual, his design is elegant and functional and the designer continues to produce work that wouldn’t surprise anyone if it came directly from designer Jony Ive’s design secret lair.

Very sleek, and very handsome. If it existed, I know that I would have one. The question is, however, is it functional? Is it simple? These are two of the pillars of Apple’s success in retail electronics and with a screen the size proposed in the concept work were to be for sale, I can’t imagine that it would accommodate all of the lovely Apple functionality in a simple manner.

The strap is also quite nice, until you look at in any colour but black. No thanks!

If the iWatch 2 were shipping today, would you pick one up? Or perhaps the iPod Nano is all you need?

Review: Moneris PAYD iPhone Payment Terminal and Card Reader

Not too long ago, I took a look at the Moneris PAYD card reader for smart phones and today I’ve had the chance to get hands on with it. Here’s the rundown.

To bring you up to speed, PAYD is a device meant to allow users to turn their smart phones into mobile payment terminals allowing for credit card transactions to occur wherever you might be.

The unit employs the use of an app called eSelect Plus and where the tool lacks in elegance, it certainly makes up for in functionality.

I used the application in “Demo Mode” which allowed me to skip the process of creating an account and connecting it to any kind of financial service I might already have in place.

The app satisfies any need you’d have when taking a credit card and that doesn’t mean simply “purchases” and “refunds”. You can also accomplish pre-authorizations, void transactions and capture credit card information for future transactions. There’s also a very handy “Reports” function, which allows you to query your transaction history to locate information for any number of purposes. And don’t forget the essential signature feature.

The most important thing, however, is the swiper. At first glance, it would seem that the device would simply do the job. But, clearly, more thought has gone into the accessory than immediately meets the eye.

It intentionally swivels while inserted into the headphone jack of your device. This means that you still have access to your sleep/wake button while keeping the swiper engaged. That seems like a simple addition, but could you imagine having to plug and unplug the reader every time you wanted to use the button? The swivel action is limited in both directions by a clever lip so that when you’re actually swiping a card you still have the necessary stability. Well done.

Beyond that, there’s also a pretty straightforward receipting system. All you have to do is enter the e-mail address you’d like it to fire off to and you’re good to go.

So, what’s it going to cost to incorporate this process into your business? According to the PAYD Twitter Account, there will be a $2.95 monthly fee and Moneris will scoop up an additional 2.95% for each of your transactions. As it currently stands, there isn’t a price for the reader itself though Moneris is confirming free units during launch time.

Woodwerx Releases the STiCKSTAND iPhone Key Ring Stand

Recently we posted about a cool little Canadian company called YEG Wood who creates interesting wooden iPhone cases. Now we have another wood based iPhone accessory to share with you.

The STiCKSTAND Keyring is a handy piece of shaped wood that connects to your keys and allows you to prop up your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s for some hands-free action.

The stands are actually made from reclaimed hardwood by Woodwerx . They are previously unused pieces of wood that would have likely found their way to the landfill if not for this clever re-purposing.
