Apple Adds New iPhone 4 & White iPod Touch To Its Inventory System

A report published by 9to5Mac from an anonymous but reliable source claims that Apple has added revisions of iPhone 4 and iPod touch models to its internal inventory database. According to the report, 3 new iPod touch models including the rumored white one, have appeared under the codename “N81A” in three different capacities. The black iPod touch is likely to continue to be offered under the current “N81″ codename. Previous reports have already suggested that only a minor upgrade to the current iPod touch lineup is expected at the upcoming iPod refresh in October.

Three new iPod touch models have appeared in the system with the codename N81A. N81 is the codename for the fourth-generation black iPod touch, so the A likely represents the string of the three new white models.

The source also claims that two new iPhone SKUs have shown up in the system which are actually tweaked iPhone 4 devices.

The new device’s codename is N90A and this represents very minor changes from the iPhone 4 – which is the N90. In fact, this may be an iPhone 4 – an 8GB version as previously rumored. It is very possible that the two SKUs mean black and white models, but that is unconfirmed. We don’t think Apple’s next-generation iPhone – coming next week- would be labeled as an N90A – as it includes major internal hardware upgrades that would typically constitute a new codename.

This new information is however not related to the next generation iPhone though which we all look forward to seeing at the “Let’s talk iPhone” Apple event on October 4th, 2011.

iPod Touch 2011 Refresh Confirmed, Minor Changes & A White Color Launching In October

There have been all sorts of rumors in the recent few months pointing at a white iPod touch with possibility of a 3G antenna arriving soon, since both the latest iPhone and iPad models already come in black as well as white colors and support 3G. A couple of months back, a leaked image pretty much confirmed a white iPod touch revealing a next generation iPod touch faceplate. Now once again, MacRumors has acquired further information virtually confirming that a new white iPod touch 2011 model is due for release next month.

According to the source:

MacRumors has received information indicating that the next iPod touch revision will be a very minor change, with the primary addition being the introduction of a new white model. Only minor changes are expected for the existing hardware, with the addition of an oleophobic coating for the display and a revised ambient light sensor seemingly being the main differences. Otherwise, we expect the models to be nearly identical to the current fourth-generation iPod touch model.

Our information confirms previous reports by Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who had indicated that there would be few, if any, distinguishable changes from last year’s iPod touch model

Though there is no actual ETA yet for the 2011 iPod refresh, it is widely believed that it will be announced in the first week of October alongside the iPhone 5 at Apple’s annual media event. It is also expected that iPod nano will also get a minor hardware revision at the same time.

Latest Report Suggests 3G iPod Touch Could Launch This Month

Rumors of a 3G supported iPod touch have been circulating for a couple of months now, though there hasn’t been much evidence to support them. But some new claims coming from AppleNApps suggest that the fifth generation iPod touch will sport an integrated 3G radio for accessing high speed data networks, much like a “mini-iPad”. According to the report, Apple has already worked out data plans with its partner carriers similar to the ones available for iPad.

While expecting a launch at the iPod media event this September, the source does indicate that there are ”no guarantees” as Apple’s plans are subject to change:

After talking with multiple people over the past few weeks, we had a lengthy chat with one person who gave us great news about the next iPod Touch. We’ve used this person in the past, but they did qualify their remarks, saying that the iPod Touch changes should make it, but there’s no guarantee the changes will be ready for fall. The 3G iPod Touch idea intrigued us so much back in July, and we’ve been trying to find one of our contacts who can give some credence to the idea. A few have declined to comment, while others honestly have no idea, but the source for this report says that Apple is indeed working on a 3G iPod Touch. Apple is intent on announcing the device during their September event which they usually save for their iPod line, but will include the iPhone as well this year.

With the introduction of iCloud service, Apple would like to support as many iOS devices as possible with “always-on” data connectivity, a pretty good reason to speculate a 3G supported iPod touch. But then again, we are yet to see a concrete evidence regarding this claim as most iPod touch 5G rumors suggest only a minor refresh from the existing model such as a white color option or a better camera.

iH8sn0w Releases Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 For iOS 5 Beta 7 Jailbreak

Apple seeded iOS 5 beta 7 to the developers yesterday and it didn’t take our Canadian homeboy iH8sn0w much long to update his Windows exclusive jailbreak tool. Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 has just been released and is now available for download with full support for tethered iOS 5 beta 7 jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPod touch 3G and iPod touch 4G.

Like previous couple of releases, Sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 also allows device hacktivation and bypasses UDID check which means any supported device can be updated and jailbroken on iOS 5 beta 7 without developer registration. Like always, your current baseband will be preserved for Ultrasn0w unlock support.

Dev-Team Releases Redsn0w 0.9.8b With iPad iOS 5 Beta 6 & iOS 4.3.5 Support

The Dev-Team has just released another update to their iOS jailbreak tool. The latest version is Redsn0w 0.9.8b which brings support for iOS 5 beta 6 and iOS 4.3.5 IPSW. Previously there was a bug recognizing the two IPSW files but the latest version is now fully compatible. Once again though the jailbreak is tethered for all devices except iPhone 3GS with older bootrom, meaning you need to connect your device via USB to your computer and run Redsn0w each and every time you reboot it. Also, this is a developer’s beta release so proceedwith caution.

Here is the official release note from Dev-Team’s blog (Update #7):

Apple updated the iPad1 iOS5b6 IPSW without changing its version number or filename, so we’re releasing redsn0w 0.9.8b7 to handle both the original and changed IPSW. We’ve also added explicit support for a tethered 4.3.5/4.2.10 jailbreak (instead of pointing at the 4.3.4/4.2.9 IPSWs) and fixed a 4.2.10 problem.

Redsn0w 0.9.8b is compatible with the following devices:

iPhone 4 GSM
iPhone 4 CDMA
iPhone 3GS (New & Old Bootroms)
iPad
iPod touch 3G
iPod touch 4G

iPad 2 is not supported yet. The only way to jailbreak it is via JailbreakMe 3.0.

MuscleNerd has just announced the release of Â RedSn0w 0.9.8b6 “JetBlue Edition” which supports tethered iOS 5 beta 6 jailbreak on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G and iPad 1. No love for iPad 2 once again since the current Limera1n jailbreak exploit used in both Sn0wbreeze and Redsn0w tools does not work on it. Also, this is a beta developer’s release so proceed with caution!

Following are the official release notes:

We’ve released redsn0w 0.9.8b6 to jailbreak iOS5 beta6 (point it directly at the beta6 IPSW).Â

Two important notes about this version:

(1) Please let your device boot normally to IOS5b6 and do a clean shutdown (slide to power off) before jailbreaking.
(2) Boot logos have intentionally been disabled for now, so you’ll see a black screen on tethered boots (you can re-enable logos or verbose boot with command-line options if you really want them back).

Due increased sensitivity to abrupt filesystem shutdowns in IOS5b6, it’s very important that you do a clean shutdown before running redsn0w.

Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 6 On iPhone, iPod & iPad With Sn0wbreeze v2.8 b6

Apple pushed iOS 5 beta 6 to the developers a couple of days back and we already have our first working jailbreak solution. iH8sn0w has just releasedÂ Sn0wbreeze v2.8 b6 with full jailbreak support for iOS 5 beta 6. Like the previous release, this one also adds the ability to remove device UDID checks which means you can install iOS 5 beta 6 firmware on any device and activate it even if that iPhone, iPod or iPad is not registered with Apple as a developer’s device. Also, it removes the beta timer which means there is no expiry date for the installed firmware.

For those who aren’t aware, Sn0wbreeze is a jailbreak tool for Windows similar to PwnageTool for Mac. It preserves baseband updates allowing your to unlock your iPhone 4 / 3GS using Ultrasn0w if your current baseband is supported. Below are the release notes forÂ Sn0wbreeze v2.8 b6:

Remember, this is a tethered jailbreak meaning you need to plug in your device to a computer using a USB cable every time your reboot it and run iBooty (included with Sn0wbreeze) to boot up your device into jailbroken state. This does not apply to iPhone 3GS with old bootrom which can be jailbroken on iOS 5 beta 6 fully untethered. iPad 2 is once again not supported currently.

Fifth Generation iPod Touch To Feature Capacitive Home Button, iPhone 5 Too?

Today, images of the purported fifth generation iPod Touch prototype have been floating around the web. The upcoming device seems to feature a 128 GB storage capacity but more interestingly, a capactive home button.

Recently, there has been rumours circulating about Apple releasing an iPad or iPhone without a home button. While at first thought that seems like a bad move, Apple could be moving to a capacitive home button instead. This way, users simply tap the home button instead of pushing it.

With the fifth generation iPod Touch possibly seeing a capacitive home button, the new feature could be revealed on the upcoming iPhone 5 first.

Like past iOS device prototypes, this iPod has the marking of DVT-1 on the back, meaning the device is in prototype status. However, the origins of the photos are unknown, as is the legitimacy.

iPod Nano Jailbreak on the Horizon?

When the new iPod Nano was announced, earlier this year, There was speculation that the new touch screen iPod Nano would be running some form of iOS and that it might be able to be jailbroken. Once it was in people’s hands it was quickly determined that, it does not run iOS, but just a familiar looking OS,Â proprietaryÂ to the iPodÂ Nano.

A hacker by the name of J Whelton, has launched a new blog, www.NanoHack.me, where he talks about certain modifications he has made to the iPod Nano OS. Nothing huge, so far, but he was able to remove the Photos app, leaving a blank space on the screen, where the icon used to be. He says this is just a simple springboard hack, and is not a full jailbreak of the device, but if someone could build a bootloader for it, there is some potential to enable many more features.

If we do see a full jailbreak for the iPod Nano, this could make this a much more useful device. Although, the tiny screen isn’t good for very much, it would still be nice to have some options.
