Review: Case-Mate Screen Protection Kit & Privacy Screen

Share:

Hey all!

Before we begin, congratulations to “x00carly” for being the chosen winner of the iPowerRush Battery Pack! Enjoy!

For today’s post: a dual product review of the Case-Mate iPhone 3G Screen Protection Kit and Universal Privacy Screen Pro.

Case-Mate Screen Protection Kit & Privacy Screen

Before doing this review, I had to find someone that had used the product or had one to use because I did not want to use the ones I was going to give-away (oops…look at me dropping secrets!). Anyway, after a few days of searching and calling, I tracked down two people that had not opened either the Screen Protection Kit or the Privacy Screen. So, I volunteered to apply both for them to their iPhone’s and thus this review was born!

I will start with the Screen Protection Kit. Basically, its a screen film protector like many of you have seen before. It comes with an applicator card, a cleaning cloth, and THREE screen protectors (I thought this was pretty fantastic). The application of the screen film was no different than any other that I have done…time and patience is the key. After the application, the film is pretty much invisible except when you angle it just right in the light…but seriously, who does that anyway? Overall, I like them, especially that you get three!

Then I moved over to the privacy screen. At first, I was not exactly sure what this was until I got into the package. Essentially, it is a film that sits on your screen and because the film is slightly darkened, it shields the screen from prying eyes. For example, you are on your local transit system (and if it’s anything like Vancouver, BC’s system, you will love this product) and you are browsing on your online banking site. Well, to the 3 people standing near you, they can see all! However, with this film on, the screen is darkened at an angle (think DLP televisions when you sit at a 45 degree angle) and they cannot see anything, allowing you to finish your transactions at ease! In short, if you are a private person or just do not like prying eyes, this product is a total winner!

The Protection Kit is available on Case-Mate’s online store for $9.99 and the Privacy Screen for $19.99.

So, two fantastic reviews means two give-aways!

Both Case-Mate products pictured above will be given away today to two readers that post below on why and how they can use ONE of the products. So, if you want the privacy screen, post why you want it or how you can use it. If you want the screen protection kit, same terms. You cannot have both. PICK ONE! Failure to comply gets you a zero chance to win. The contest will end on Friday November 21, 2008 at 11:59pm.

Enjoy!

I would love to have the privacy screen. I go to University and God knows how many people I’m surrounded by on a daily basis. I always use my iPhone before, during and after class. I’m constantly checking my email, texting, twitter, etc… and I always catch people peeping over my shoulder. Especially in the cafeteria where I’m watching downloaded episodes of Family Guy and Simpsons, it would be great to have the privacy screen so people assume that I’m doing something important. Haha. So please send me the privacy screen! Please save me from further embarrassment! LOL
On a side note, my iPhone 3G Mophie Juice Pack arrived on Thursday and I have to admit, it is awesome! You have to charge it initially for 8 hours after its first use. It also has a weird rubbery smell, but I was told it would go away. For anyone who doesn’t mind spending roughly $130 on a battery pack ($99 plus expedited shipping), I recommend the iPhone 3G Mophie Juice Pack. You won’t be disappointed.

I got an invisible shield for my iphone 3g from London Drugs but threw away the receipt (Silly me), so there goes my life time warranty. Somehow my invisible shield screen guard was getting scratches in it making it look like my iphone screen was scratched. So I took it off and thank god it wasnt the actual screen. So now I don’t have a screen protector and the screen is loving the fingerprints.

i also had an invisible shield and had to take it off. the corners became blueish from putting my phone in my pocket. now it hasn’t got a case on it. would love the chance to try out another kind… feels like you could just keep trying out case after case forever…

Now this sure looks quite nice, especially the privacy screen. Here is a reason why this would fit my situation so well… First, I definitely want a good screen protector to go with my Case-Mate Carbon-Fiber case. Then there is this situation where I ordered a InvisibleSHIELD that I tried to install yesterday only to discover that the thing was completely out of proportions. The whole thing is unevenly cut, not even covering my entire front screen and with cut dents all around. Basically, a useless piece of plastic. Finally, I use my iPhone 3G as a work smartphone and I work in R&D for the federal government, so I’m all about privacy. I guess that would sum it up pretty well!

Great review there X1Zero! You give us again some very good pieces of information! I’ll be looking forward for your next review!

I could use the Screen Protection Kit because I still have not bought a case/shield for my iPhone 3G yet, and it’s been about 3 months now, and the phone already has a few minor scratches. I would like to get at least some kind of protection, because anything is better than what I have now, which is nothing. This kit seems good for me too since it comes with 3 screens so I have 3 chances in case I screw up, since I’ve never done this before and it will be my first time.

I’d love the screen protector. I had one on my iPhone that came with my Griffin case, but then had the iPhone exchanged, and lost the screen protector with it. So I need a new screen protector now.

i thought my invisible shield was cut all out of whack too. turns out, it actually doesn’t cover ever bit of iPhone space. i had to watch a couple of youtube vids to figure out how to make it fit the way it should. i thought the profile of the shield was great, but was really underwhelmed with the installation.

the privacy screen looks awesome, I would love to have this! Being a law school student, I’m always surrounded by my classmates and often we work in “learning teams” (ie study groups). I often find myself trying to shield or cover my screen so that people can’t see me checking my email, facebooking, tweeting or reading blogs (such as yours) when I suppose to be working on group projects or studying for exams.

Plus, I take public transit everyday so I’m always concerned about others seeing what I’m doing especially online banking. Also, I love using my iphone as an Ipod to watch movies, tv shows and listen to music, but I often feel embarrassed to watch the types of videos or listen to the type of music I like because they aren’t considered cool or hip and others tend to make fun or judge me for my taste.

The privacy screen would make my life so much easier, and much more enjoyable.

The privacy screen would help me watch sex and the city on the c-train without feeling like a complete sterotype!!!

The privacy screen would be awesome in my case so that I could read e-books, blogs, and watch movies on my iPhone while taking public transit or while at school. Cool, thanks.

I hear that Screen Protection kit callin’ my name. I’ve just had a my iPhone for a little over a month and am loving it, but so do my kids. I’m happy with my case and it gives me peace of mind , but I cringe at the fingerprints and recoil at the potential for scratches.

Thanks for the review iPhoneFan! I’d love the privacy screen simply because I do just as you said use the Vancouver transit system a lot. Especially because of my frequent visits to the apple store in pacific centre because i love checking out new cases and the macbooks which i will buy one of these days. Anyways I’ve noticed a lot of people sitting next to me on the bus or skytrain looking at what i’m doing. and its not like its anything private or personal but id rather not have them looking haha. anyways thanks for another great review! hopefully i win!

I really need a screen protection kit
Without one, my iPhone just might quit
It’s got more than one scratch
So a casemate would be a catch
I’m sure I would like every bit!

I would really love the privacy screen because I really hate it when I’m sending an important text message to my girlfriend and other people behind me are watching because, well, it IS an iPhone.

I wouldn’t mind a privacy screen… I am always sending texts, emails, Facebooking and IMing on my phone, but while I am on the bus, I get a little uneasy because the bus is so crowded and it would be really easy for people to glance over and look at what I am doing and read my messages that sometimes contain some personal information…

The privacy screen is the one that got my attention. I take the bus to work every day and of course my iphone is an extension of myself. Last week I forgot it at home and was almost in a deep dark depression thinking the trip would take twice as long with only my thoughts to keep me occupied, AND I had to make the trip back home! But I digress. Except for that one time last week, I ALWAYS have my iphone on. I’m usually watching a video, most often a TV series, and while it’s usually not “viewer discretion is advised” material, I prefer to watch it in private, so to speak.
