Heatmap Shows Consumers Have a Bigger Eye for the iPad mini

A recent study conducted by EyeTrackShop shows that the iPad mini is above the Nexus 7, Kindle Fire and Nook HD in terms of consumer recognition and buying rate, BusinessInsider reports.

By using Web cameras on 600 Americans’ personal computers, the EyeTrackShop study found that the iPad mini enjoys great success among users: they homed in on Apple’s mini tablet 5% more, recognized it 23% more, and their buying rate was 40% higher when compared to the Kindle Fire, Nexus 7 and Nook HD.

But while the above stats are great news for Apple, the Nook HD ranked higher in terms of areas of interest, as you can see from the above heat map posted by the research company. The iPad mini and Kindle Fire had similar–sized, high-heat areas, while the Nexus 7 recorded the smallest-size heat area.

An interesting fact, though (and a measurement of Apple’s powerful branding), is that when randomly presented, 73% of users recognized the iPad mini, but the Kindle Fire caught their attention first.

In terms of purchase intent, the iPad mini is an obvious leader — despite its lukewarm reception among reviewers — as more than half of those surveyed responded affirmatively when asked whether they purchased the iPad mini. This is 40% more than the Kindle Fire, Nook HD and Nexus 7. Will you buy the iPad mini — if you haven’t yet done so, that is?
