iPad Pro Will Allegedly Adopt Integrated OS X and iOS Operating System

The first device that integrates both OS X and iOS will be the rumoured12.9-inch model “professional” version of the iPad, supply chain sources tell Digitimes. The same sources confirm earlier rumours of a 2015 release of the so-called iPad Pro.

As Apple brings the desktop and mobile operating systems closer to each other, rumours have surfaced about a possible amalgamation of the two into one platform. Now Digitimes’ sources apparently predict that move for next year – on a device that will apparently be targeted at professional users.

Sources in the supply chain say that Apple has two 12.9-inch tablet prototypes in development: one is a 2-in-1 device and the other is a regular tablet. However, whether Apple will release both devices to the market or just one, still remains unclear. The device is rumored to be expected to enter mass production in early 2015.

It is worth noting that the rumour suggests that Apple may follow Microsoft’s lead and make the same mistake the software maker did when launched the Surface Pro.

We don’t have to go too far back in time to find an official statement regarding such behavior from Apple: in an interview with Macworld, Craig Federighi pointed to the “common sense of aesthetics, a common set of principles” that guided the company when designing the two operating systems, but “for the sake of convergence” this is ‘”absolutely a non-goal” for Apple.

Apple will unveil Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite this month in an event reportedly scheduled for October 16. The new operating system will bring with it many new features, such as Continuity and Handoff.

Mass production of the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is said to commence in early 2015, so everything seems to be on schedule for a 2015 launch -if we can believe the rumour mill.
