The only things I use my jailbreak is winterboard an categories.
I hate looking at that stupid globe all the time. I would much rather
look at Megan Fox with dimmed icons. Apple needs to do something
about customizing your phone a bit more. The other thing is to be able
to add a contact while in the calendar (I guess people only with MS Exchange
need to make appointments?).

Yup. I've tested it a few times, and would happily put real money on this:

Jailbreaking DOES NOT do any of those things. The apps you install could; but that applies to AppStore apps as well. Install a push notification app(using push) and tell me that doesn't affect battery life.

If you jailbreak, you DO need to pay more attention to what you install, and be aware that apps may be buggy. However, if you have a problem, just uninstall the last app you installed. Done.

With winterboard, yes, it will slow down a 3G phone (though not noticably a 3GS). You can get around that by installing Winterboard Settings, and having it only run in Springboard, not your other apps.

And THAT is the advantage of jailbreaking: YOU control how things work on your phone.

We'll see who releases an SMS patch (other than shutting off SMS entirely) first... But so far, apple isn't really doing a bangup job of security. Encryption was cracked in minutes, and now this?

I didn't Jailbreak my phone and don't plan to, but I have nothing against those that do. I personally am happy with what my 3GS offers out of the box and haven't seen benefits that appeal to me. That said, to those that are jailbreaking, it's your hardware to use as you like. More power to you!

Jailbreaking itself has no effect on my iPhone as far as I can tell but some of the apps do affect performance. The only jb apps I have permanently installed is voipover3g and mobilesubstrate. Anything else I install when I need it and uninstall when I don't. Battery life and the rest unaffacted. I run some pretty intense graphics like x2 football no worries.

Bottom line it depends on what exactly it is you are running on your iPhone

I personally have not experienced many problems jail breaking my 3GS. I have noticed that the battery life is not as good but in the end, who cares, i really do enjoy all the possibilities that a jailbreak can represent and that in itself outweighs the battery performance issue.

I agree with Dusty, once we pay for it, its ours to abuse and use to whatever we see fit.

Who cares... This is getting very repetitive Apple. Every so often Apple is complaining about Jailbreaking, its not going to stop. Lets hope not.. .. lol :P
We pay Apple and Rogers (Rogers really has nothing to do with Jailbreaking) enough money for their products that once its mine, I can do whatever I want! :)
