Rogers/Fido Releases iPhone 3G S Upgrade Pricing–Finally!

We’ve been waiting to hear officially from Rogers regarding their iPhone 3G S pricing. Well, the wait is over as they sent out their “official” upgrade pricing details via twitter. The details are fairly complex (typical Rogers, hehe) so let’s get right down to it!

What will be Rogers pricing for the new iPhone 3G S models?
With 3-year voice plan with 3 year data plan

NEW 16GB iPhone 3G S: $199
NEW 32GB iPhone 3G S: $299

Device-only pricing (no term)

NEW 16GB iPhone 3G S: $699
NEW 32GB iPhone 3G S: $799

Rogers.com online pricing – As of June 19th and for a limited time, the below device-only pricing applies if you buy online via Rogers.com

NEW 16GB iPhone 3G S: $680
NEW 32GB iPhone 3G S: $780

If I already have an iPhone 3G from Rogers and wish to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S are there any special offers?
Yes. For a limited time, if you are an existing iPhone customer who does not yet qualify for an upgrade, you will be able to take advantage of the below two offers for upgrading to a new iPhone 3GS.

Offer 1:
If you are an existing Rogers iPhone 3G customer who has minimum tenure of 6 months since your activation/last upgrade, you can receive $250 off the no-term, device-only price, for a new iPhone 3GS provided that you have a data plan and extend your service agreement by 1 year. This offer does not apply for upgrading to an iPhone 3G.

Offer 2:
If you are an existing iPhone 3G customer who activated or upgraded to your iPhone 3G from July 11-Sep 30 2008 and have consistently spent on average of $100 or more each month on your Rogers wireless services you will get $500 off the no-term price of an iPhone 3GS, provided that you have a data plan and extend your service agreement by 1 year. This offer does not apply for upgrading to an iPhone 3G.

No-term   Offer 1   Offer 2
iPhone 3G S 16 GB     $699      $449     $199
iPhone 3G S 32 GB      $799      $549     $299

These offers are available wherever Rogers’ smartphones are sold or by calling Rogers’ customer care. These offers are valid until July 31st.

Is there a limit to the number of iPhone 3GS that I can purchase?
Overwhelming customer feedback indicates there’s great demand for iPhone 3G in Canada so to ensure as many Canadians as possible can get one as soon as possible, we are limiting purchase at launch to a maximum of two devices per customer until further notice.

Will I still be able to purchase an iPhone 3G?
Yes. See below for pricing.
Term pricing
16GB iPhone 3G: $149 (while supplies last) with a 3-year voice, and 3 year data plan as of June 19th, 2009
8GB iPhone 3G: $99 with a 3-year voice, and 3 year data plan as of June 19th, 2009

Fido iPhone 3G S Upgrade Info

If I already have an iPhone 3G from Fido and wish to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S, are there any special offers?

Yes. For a limited time, existing iPhone 3G customers can apply their FidoDollars towards the no-term cost of the iPhone 3G S without subscribing to a data add-on. In addition these customers will receive a $100 FidoDollars Bonus top up towards the purchase of the new iPhone 3G S. This offer is effective June 19 to July 31st, 2009.

If I’m not an existing iPhone 3G customer and do not qualify for the above limited offer, can I redeem my FidoDollar for a new iPhone 3G S?

Yes. Non-iPhone customers can redeem their FidoDollars towards the no-term cost of the iPhone 3G S by subscribing to a data add-on with term.

Phew! That is a lot of information to digest. What “offer” do you fall under? Many people are definitely going to be happy to hear some solid news on upgrade/outright prices to the iPhone 3G S. Now that we have it, what are you going to do?

My average monthly spend is less than $100/month for my iPhone 3G, so that means I fall under “Offer 1″. I can extend by 1 year, and pay $449 for a 16GB iPhone 3G S. Hmm…

Could these concessions be due to our petitions to Rogers and possibly the concessions made by AT&T in the USA?

In JAPAN– The launch of the 3GS meant that EVERY SINGLE user who owned the previous iPhone model, would simply have to come to the shop and trade it in for a BRAND NEW FREE PHONE. No contract ups, no nothing. A CLEAN FREE TRADE IN. Why the hell are cell phones so bloody expensive? Like, $600-$900 you guys are ok to pay that? That is like a brand new flat screen TV, or a f**king little vacation!! I don’t know…. I got an iPhone from Fido (personal use) and a Blackberry from Rogers… I spend too much money on cellular devices…

So apparently one can pay the FULL PRICE of $700-800 for the iPhone but still have to sign on to a three year contract to get any promotional pricing on the voice and data plan. So much for off-contract pricing Rogers! And another thing, as I found out yesterday, the $199/299 on-contract price is only for some customers. Not me though. So to hell with Rogers. I will continue to harass their telephone people daily with my complaints and questions. The Rogers rep yesterday tried to convince me that the full no-contract price was still subsidized by Rogers to the tune of $250. I laughed.

I just spoke to a friend of mine who works for Rogers in sales he told me to pay a $50 fee and transfer my fido account over to Rogers. I’m then treated as a new customer and am then eligible for rebated pricing. Instead of a $800 price tag I pay $300. ( $50 fee) I know nothing of Rogers plans but I hope they are comprable. I’m gone try it out and see what happens…It’s my last resort to gett hands on a 3GS !

Did you read my comment above? Not only do you NOT need to move to Rogers but you can also get a swee plan from Fido.

The fact that you can switch to Rogers w/o paying ECC is a proven fact and I described it in my comment. Read it and take advantage of my experience.

Rogers is such a load of garbage / 15 days now to TRY to get my upgrade .. they say I am eligible for the upgrade .. they don’t know WHY they can’t give it to me. Logged 3 tickets, they keep saying they will get back to me within 48 hours .. NEVER DO .. I have to call in and the average time is 2-3 HOURS on the phone with some monkey or their supervising monkey. So total logged phone time with rogers for this upgrade 25 hours .. 25 F**** hours?? come on .. wtf

    Pay attention people;

    -$299 = New 3Gs price with 3 year contract.
-$299 = Upgrade from old 3G with existing contract plus (add 1 yr to remaing 3G contract = 3 yrs again)

Hmm, This is no upgrade. There are giving nothing for the 1 year old 3G and your money spent as customer! This is same damn price as some newbie off the street that has not already spent 15K in the past as I have with rogers. So I may as well just smash my 3G, walk in and start new? This is plain crazy as Rogers always is.

    ROGERS…FUCK YOU!
