Virgin iPhone 4S Pre-Orders Available; MTS and SaskTel Shut Out of iPhone 4S

Share:

Virgin (property of Bell) iPhone 4S pre-orders are now available, and they are the same prices as every other carrier in town (surprise, surprise):

16GB – $159
32GB – $269
64GB – $369

Nothing new here, so if you are a Virgin customer, order away.

iPhone 4S Not Available from MTS and SaskTel

MTS and SaskTel carried the iPhone 4 to the delight of customers, but it appears at this time, the phone will not be available from these carriers, as posted on the ‘Buy’ page on Apple.ca:

The iPhone 4S should also be available from Koodo (property of Telus), and the usual resellers such as Future Shop, Best Buy, London Drugs, etc on October 14th.

Well, I feel kinda like the odd man out here…but I went ahead and pre-ordered with Virgin. I know people think the supertab is crazy, but I don’t know whether I’ll be transferred to Haiti next year and if that happens, I don’t want to have to deal with cancelling a 3 year iphone plan…

So I thought of just buying the phone outright…but my office pays for 60% of my phone bill so if I buy the phone on supertab, then at least my office is contributing to part of the cost of the phone, which I can pay off any time if I do get transferred… I figured it made more sense than buying outright from Apple since once I pay off the supertab, Virgin will unlock the phone for me…

    Still…

I feel like I’m missing something. I went with the $60 deal they had and will cancel my rogers plan once I get the new phone (my plan is up next month). I called Rogers retentions 6 times trying to do slightly better than the Virgin plan in order to keep me, seems they weren’t interested. I even tried to use my corporate discount with the CBA and they hung up on me.

So…see ya Rogers. Maybe virgin won’t be all that great, but at least at the end of the day, if I hate them, I can cancel the service at any time and just pay the full price of the phone, which I woulda paid anyways with Apple… and when Iphone 5 comes out, I can pay off the 4s, sell it unlocked, and upgrade any time I want.

I still have 14 days to return if I’m missing something….

  • Not sure if Virgin places a cap on minutes used on your new phone if you want to return it, but it’s something to be aware of. I know Rogers does this.

Thanks Gary! I appreciate the heads up. Given that possibility, I figure I won’t even open the box until I’ve decided for sure.

  • No problem 😉

That might not be a bad idea. Zero questions on a sealed box. Good luck.

Update… ended up cancelling my order with Virgin and buying the 32g straight from Apple and I didn’t realize beforehand that Virgin would lock my phone even when not on contract! grr…

So I’m going to get it from Apple and just get an unlimited everything plan from Koodo and go from there… now just to bide my time until October 25th (my est. delivery date…)

    Hi!
I’m interested in your story. So if I am understanding you correctly, if you pay off your Supertab completely (effectively buying the phone) then Virgin will still not unlock your phone?

    Thanks
