Bodyguardz iPhone 3G Case Review

The list of iPhone full body screen protectors can go on and on, but there are a few companies out there that have established themselves the cellphone field. So far we’ve reviewed fully body iPhone 3G protectors from ZAGG with their popular invisibleSHIELD, PhantomSkinz, and now the iPhone 3G shield from BodyGuardz.

What’s Included in the Box?

BodyGuardz offers a lot of value with their version of full body iPhone protectors. Here’s what you get in the box:
– 2 x front shields
– 2 x back shields
– application spray and plastic squeegee card

On top of offering two full body skins in the box (like PhantomSkinz), BodyGuardz offers a full 30 day money back guarantee and a lifetime replacement warranty. It seems like all of these companies are offering these nowaways, which is great for us!

How Was the Application Process? Easy? Difficult?

Installing the BodyGuardz was very similar to any other full body skin install. The secret to getting it right is to follow these tips:
– spray your fingers before peeling the skins
– spray the skin as you’re peeling it off the paper
– spray your iPhone lightly and just SOAK the skin itself
– use the hole cut out for the iPhone’s camera as a guide to laying down the back skin
– spray some solution on the skin itself while you squeegee–this helps to remove air bubbles easier
– for the corners, wait 5 minutes or so till they dry a bit–this makes sticking to your phone much easier
– make sure you have an hour handy and aren’t in a rush to go somewhere; the best time to install is at night before bedtime. This way you’ll leave some time for the shield to “set” onto your iPhone 3G.

I don’t know if I was having a bad day, or if I was rushing but the back side install didn’t go as perfect as I thought it would. After 15 minutes or so, I decided it wasn’t up to my expectations so I decided to remove the back and try again. This is the benefit of having two back skins! I didn’t install the front piece on my iPhone 3G since my invisibleSHIELD install was still holding up strong.

So…What’s the Verdict? How does the BodyGuardz for the iPhone 3G Compare?

With so many companies making protective shields, how does the BodyGuardz for the iPhone 3G compare? For starters, the installation was fairly straightforward. I did find some of the corners took a lot longer than usual because of some excess film. Compared to the latest iPhone 3G invisibleSHIELD, ZAGG’s corners are superior because of their latest revision. Excess film is cut away which prevents the corners from rising and catching lint in your pocket.

As for the clarity of the skins, shields from BodyGuardz exhibit significantly less “orange peel” effects compared to the invisibleSHIELD and PhantomSkinz. In other words, these skins from BodyGuardz are VERY clear. The backside looked like there was no shield on at all because of the clear look.

Some of you may also be wondering about the grip factor. The BodyGuardz shield did increase grip but I felt overall it made the iPhone feel slippery than normal. I would prefer the invisibleSHIELD’s grip compared to the BodyGuardz.

Which one should you decide on? That’s a tough choice. This full body shield from BodyGuardz is one of the best full body protective shields out on the market. You get TWO shields for the price of one (PhantomSkinz also offers this), a 30 day moneyback guarantee and lifetime replacement warranty. Installation was straight forward but still the invisibleSHIELD takes a minor edge. BodyGuardz will give you a super clear look, but the added grip can be questionable compared to the invisibleSHIELD. Regardless, you can’t go wrong with a skin from BodyGuardz for your iPhone 3G.

Take a look at the following pictures for a closer look. As I’ve said before, don’t take my review at heart–get out there and try both and decide for yourself. For $24.95 it is within the ballpark price of other comparative full body shields. Also if patience isn’t one of your virtues you might want to take a pass at these thin protective shields. If you do have skills to apply one of these shields consider yourself lucky (just remember to use A LOT of solution).
