I’ve been waiting to post about this since the day I received my InvisibleShield in the mail. I have read about InvisibleShield products before–they have protective films for over 1000 items, such as digital cameras, laptops, Nintendo DS Lites, PSP’s, watches, etc…you name it, they have it. If they don’t have it, they can custom cut one for you! For those who have been emailing me asking about a case/protector, this review is for you!

Just What the Heck is an InvisibleShield?

If you’ve never heard of the InvisibleShield before, it’s an industrial strength urethane plastic film that fits snug over your product, which in this case, is my precious 8GB iPhone! The company likes to push that this protective film is scratch resistant and can resist scratching from coins, keys, and knives. Previously, this US military grade plastic film was used on helicopter blades to protect them from wear and tear–pretty impressive stuff.

So What’s Included for my iPhone?

I contacted InvisibleShield and they were gracious enough to send me a sample to review. Now, I have read about these films all the time and I have never tried them out for myself. So when I got this item in the mail, I was eager to put it to the test. Included in the box was the full body protective films for my iPhone, which included front, back, corner, and top and bottom bezel pieces. Included is a squeegee for smoothing out air bubbles and a soap solution spray required to install the InvisibleShield.

The Rock Solid Lifetime Warranty & 30 Day Money Back Guarantee

What I think is the best feature though, aside from the protective properties of the film is the lifetime warranty and 30 day money back guarantee. Yes, that’s right…if your film ever peels or scratches, InvisibleShield will send you a replacement for free–for life! That’s pretty cool, as you don’t see that from many companies nowadays! If you’re not satisfied with the product you can contact them and get your money back.

How Does the Installation Process Work?

Okay…so after work on Friday night, I took some time to install the InvisibleShield. These are the steps I followed to install my InvisibleShield, as per their instructions with a few extra tips thrown in by yours truly:

  1. Wash your hands. Turn off the iPhone.
  2. Wipe the dust/fingerprints on your iPhone clean.
  3. Spray the solution on your fingers prior to peeling the film–this eliminates fingerprints on the film.
  4. The first film: Spray the sticky side of the front screen protector liberally. Don’t delay too long, as dust can settle on your screen! When I’m viewing a white background, I can see a couple specks of dust that got onto my shield. So you have to be quick when applying the front!
  5. img_2357-medium.JPG
  6. Apply to the front, and use the squeegee to smooth out any air bubbles. Let sit for 10 mins to set.
  7. Spray your fingers again, and peel the back film. Spray the film and apply it to the back only–squeegee air bubbles. Hold off on the corners till later.
  8. img_2358-medium.JPG
  9. Let the back set for 10 mins or so. Now, spray the corners again, and press down carefully. The instructions say to push the corners into the palm of your hands, but that didn’t work out for me. Too many ripples. I just used my giant thumbs to press them into to place. Hold for at least 2-3 minutes. Repeat for all 4 corners.
  10. img_2365-medium.JPG
  11. Spray your fingers, and apply the corner dots, home button, and top and bottom bezel pieces (the bezel pieces take patience).
  12. Let your iPhone sit for 24 hours so the shield can set.
  13. Voila! Full body protection!!!

img_2373-medium.JPGimg_2360-medium.JPG

img_2366-medium.JPG img_2367-medium.JPG

All in all, the install took me over an hour. It wasn’t difficult, but it requires patience and lots of time if you want to get it right. Since these films are precision cut, they fit like a glove. The specifications are pretty much bang on. I only had snip 2mm off one of the top bezel ends because it was too long. I also used lots of the soap solution spray, to ensure that my install was snug and I didn’t get any fingerprints on my film. Aside from that, it’s a pretty straightforward install. Just be patient and have lots of time!!

The Final Verdict…Is the InvisibleShield for YOU?

Prior to my InvisibleShield, I had a clear film protector on the screen of my iPhone (purchased from your local Asian cellphone shop; $5) and a black silicone case. This actually ended up scratching parts of my iPhone as dust and got into the case! Here’s my old setup:

img_2355-medium.JPG before and after: img_2371-medium.JPG

Anyways, I am very happy with the InvisibleShield. Now that I don’t have my bulky silicone case, the sexiness of the iPhone’s design is shown all the time. Plus, there is increased grip when I’m holding my iPhone! The film is only 0.20 millimeters thick! It’s pretty cool having a non-existent full body protector!

What about the touch screen? I knew someone would be asking that. I have noticed ZERO difference in the touch screen. The sensitivity has stayed virtually the same.

There are a couple downsides. The plastic can attract dust if it’s in your jeans pocket, but it can easily be wiped away or picked off. I am wary of the corner pieces getting nicked and coming loose…but so far it’s held on pretty strong!

*edit* Feb.2/08 It’s been two weeks and I’ve been storing my iPhone in my jacket and jeans pockets–no loose corners yet! This is due to the extra time I took to apply the corners–press and hold for a few minutes to ensure a good stick!**

Also, you will notice that the reflections on my front screen are not necessarily clear…there are sort of ripples in the shield. This however does not affect the view whatsoever. The screen still looks great to me.

How Much is the InvisibleShield?

The full body shield for the iPhone costs $24.95US, which may seem expensive when you compare it to other iPhone cases and protector solutions out there. However, for the lifetime warranty and 30 day money back guarantee, I think you have nothing to lose by trying out the InvisibleShield! If you don’t like it, you get your money back. Simple as that. If it tears, rips, or peels off your iPhone, you can get a free replacement. If you tear or damage an existing iPhone case, will that company send you a free replacement? Food for thought, huh?

In the end, the choice is yours on what you want. If you want thin, invisible protection for your iPhone, then the InvisibleShield will love your iPhone. If you are looking for protection from drops and bumps, I would consider looking into a hard case or silicone protector, but that brings added bulk. The choice is yours! :) You can check out or purchase the InvisibleShield for your iPhone by clicking here. Use coupon code iphoneinca for 15% off!!!

I would give away the InvisibleShield, however it’s on my iPhone. If I can get another one from the company, expect another contest in the future. Thanks for reading!

Thanks for the review. I had clicked on the ad on your site earlier and was already seduced by their lifetime guarantee, so ordered one late last week. When I get it and put it on my new iPhone, I will post here again to let you all know how it went.

    Later.
  • Cool, thanks! I look forward to your experience with the InvisSheild...it's working out great for me. :)
  • Dusty
Wow, now that looks sexy! haha I have always ed looked into these shields for my iTouch when I first bought it, never did buy one though... I went the same route as u, I purchased one of those cheap colorful silicone cases and yes in the end they do trap the dust and ur iPhone/iTouch may get scratched. Currently I am using a hardcover case (Blackish/clear)for my iPhone and it seems to work great...lol however I'm still debating to try this out...Hmmmm lol :p U did a great installation job, it looks really good.(Nice pics too) ;) I like how they have Lifetime Guarantee, thats always a deal! hehe If you also visit there website, they have a few demo videos of installations, commercials, promotions and etc. that might help ya learn more... but overall, this sounds really interesting!
Thanks for the guide/review, you always do a awesome job explaining urself and I'm sure many users like me and others can follow this guide very easy!
    Thanks iPhone Fan!! :)

  • Dusty, thanks for always commenting...I appreciate your constructive feedback and news you provide. Thanks! I have another contest coming up...hehe...soon!
  • Kumail
    hey iPhone fan,

is it removable... dose it leave like that sticky solution when u remove it like a sticker would or dose it leave your iPhone looking mean and clean??
  • Hi Kumail, it is removable, but I haven't tried it yet. There is a video on YouTube of someone removing the film. It's not a sticky solution, just a mild soap solution.
  • Tim
Great review. I just ordered one for myself! Can't wait for it to get here.
  • Tyler
think i am going to order one now, have the agent 18 clear case, not too happy with it just it is just so bulky.
  • Ryan
Why would you need one of those? I thought the iPhone was pretty naturally scratch resistant?
    http://www.pcworld.com/video/id,545-page,1-bid,...
  • The glass screen is scratch resistant, but the rest of the body is not, especially the back and the sides.

Regardless, a screen protector will still better than a naked screen exposed to the elements.
  • Kumail
How long do they take to deliver... its been like 2weeks for mine now and i still havnt gotton my sheild!!
  • wrinkly
Kumail...what shipping option did you choose? I ordered a full body set for my iphone on jan 21st and used the international comparison shipping method. a customer service agent said that i should receive my product no later than feb 7. if you used the free shipping method, they did say that it would take up to 3 weeks for it to deliver. hope that helps. you can also try emailing them with your order number and see when they shipped the item. that might also give you some insight into when it would be arriving.
  • Tyler
I ordered one online on monday, but then read that shipping was going to take a few weeks. I paid like $1.80 for shipping. Anyways I was coming down to the states anyway and found one at a store called 'The Mac Store' - an authorized apple re-seller. Just finished installing it, had difficulty with the corners but it is great. Couldn't wait for the one I ordered to arrive. Defitnitley a great product. It's much better that having a bulky case on it.
  • Glad you got your fix! Yes, the corners do take some time. I love my InvisibleShield--it's awesome! I can't believe I had my iPhone in a case prior to putting on the shield. The phone looks much better and is a lot slimmer in my pocket. No more dust sticking to the neoprene case!
  • Howard
Posted on BSE article too and I think I'm going with the BSE for clarity especially if I win contest! haha

But seriously considering Ivisible shield too.

Not sure if appropriate, so please moderate if necessary but Zaag (makers of Invisible Shield) are having a 50% OFF PROMOTION:

doh!!! i wish i waited....could have gotten this for cheaper. arg..oh well

This is the third time i've made a purchase from invisible shield and I have been very impressed with the product, it is very durable. By far the best of this sort of product i have ever seen .I had my iphone for 3 weeks before i put the shield on and the only downside I can see is that the pinch zoom is a little tougher to use than before. the smooth glossy feel of the Iphone glass screen feels great and you do loose a bit of that with the shield.
I was more interested in protecting the rest of the iphone as the screen itself is very tough.

so happy that I found your website. I'm thinking to get a iPhone but not sure if I NEED it...hummm.....I'll keep reading all your posting and see..^_^

a little update....i have tried both the invisibleshield and the bestskinsever shield. I helped my friend put the invisibleshield on his iphone and used the bestskinsever shield on mine. In the end, as iphone fan said, the products are pretty much identical but i noticed that the bestskinever shield was a little easier to apply onto the phone. it seems that the corners and especially the bezel pieces were designed a better to help with ease of application. I was impressed with the bezel pieces of the BSE shield. They are slightly curved so that they mold to the contour of the iphone bezel much better than the invisibleshield bezel pieces. the invisible shield bezel pieces were cut straight and therefore i found it harder to apply to the iphone. Overall, both the products do as they are advertised, but the price and ease of installation really won me over to the BSE shield although the lifetime warranty of the invisible shield is hard to beat as well. I hope this gives a little more insight to people who are still undecided about which shield to get.
  • Alex
I just wanted to say that I purchased the invisible shield strictly because I read your review on it. To tell you the truth it is amazing. It actually makes the phone more appealing. I have had several friends say that just the skin alone makes them want to buy an iPhone. I have had it now for just over a week, yes truth be told it is a little finicky to apply but the wait and patience is worth it.

Thank you for the advice, it was worth the investment.
  • Hi Alex! Glad my review helped you! I love my InvisibleShield...still going very strong! :)

The application does take a lot of patience, but it totally worth it!
  • Jay
I currently have the hard case, basically, if i drop my phone on the ground the invisble shield will not protect the phone whereas a hard case will.

Probably my only apprehension when it comes to purchasing the shield.
  • I have yet to drop my iPhone with the InvisibleShield on. It has made me more careful and aware of where my phone is at all times!
  • Mary-Ellen
Just ordered my invisibleShield...hoping it will be relatively easy to put on...I also have a Iskin Revo coming, but I think it will end up being too bulky, and YES YES YES...it was 1/2 price....so very affordable right now...will let you know how it turns out when I get it...free shipping...so could be a while...too cheap to pay for the shorter ways...very pricey!!
  • Dickie
Hey, great review, does the invisibleshield interfere with the proximity sensor?
  • Mary-Ellen Camp
Just an update...I ordered my invisibleshield on the 18th of March and it arrived to Canada with the free shipping option on April 1st, so that's pretty quick...now when I have some time and patience I will stick it...will keep you updated.
  • Melissa
hey Iphon Fan - can you pls tell me where you got the front screen protector for $5? I bought one for $13 at landsdown mall. what a ripe off! I'm waiting for my bodyguardz but now the screen protector looks pretty bad (mad installer ^_^). pls tell me where cuz I need one bad.
    thx!
  • Rox
humm... several days (maybe weeks) of delay before I can get one.
  • whiterhino
I've had 5 different shiedzone cases for different products and I'm hoping that someone invents something better soon. it's a hugh pain in the butt to put on, Also dirt and lint always collects around the edges of the glue. the case I peeled off my old iphone had turned yellow. Cant wait to see how my new white iphone is going to look in a few months.
  • ihelp
Does the shield prevent you from pressing the home button?
  • @ihelp: nope...the shield does not interfere at all.
  • Mry-Jo
What would you use once the "solution" is all gone? Hubby is panicking!
  • 1 drop of dish soap and the rest water! Good luck!! :)
  • Mary-Jo
So hubby finally got most of the shield on except for the 4 itty bitty corner teardrop pieces...with a whole lot of not so nice words!!!! Did anyone else find the Invisible Shield difficult to put on??
  • Cheryl
    Tip for Applying InvisibleShield:

I went to a mall kiosk, bought the InvisibleShield, entire body jacket, for my new Apple iPhone 3G and paid $24.95. I then spent another $10.00 to have the professionals at the kiosk apply it. I had to wait about 30 minutes, but they did an excellent job. It will save you the aggravation of applying it yourself, which can be quite difficult. The $10.00 was well worth it. If you have already purchased one online, try and find a pro to apply it. I bought the front cover InvisibleShield and tried applying it myself, didn't like it, returned it to BestBuy, and went this route instead. This is the best protection one could have for any gadget!! I love it and would highly recommend it!!
  • jelfy
That sounds like a great idea! What mall did you get it done at?
  • Mee
I bought the IS the other day and I thought I would use latex gloves to handle the shield...bad idea. Went and washed my hands and applied the solution. Even though the bottle seems long, it doesn't seem to hold much solution. I would like to know how to make it myself or be able to order it.

I find nowhere does it say that removing the plastic will be a PIA. As a result, one of my top edges is crinkled. I can see this starting to ripple or peel. In fact, in that area, there's some ripple already.

I did find a bit of dust does get trapped, even though I did it the bathroom. I had difficulty with the small home key piece. However, I am happy overall, although I didnt apply the back shield yet. I can see this one will be more difficult. If anyone has any additional tips in handling the small pieces and applying the corners, please post here.

I emailed IS about my concerns and tried to call them. THey still havent replied to my email or returned my message. I dont think that's a good thing. It's been over a week. I wonder if they're having financial problems?

I think Cheryl was very lucky in being able to return the shield to BB because once you apply it, u can't return it. They mustve been smitten by you ;)
  • Mee
BTW, I forgot to add, the shield was not a PERFECT fit, the sides on the main front screen were NOT completely covered, there is a bit of a gap on both sides. Therefore, it doesn't offer complete coverage.
  • matt
i purchases the shield a couple of months ago, it works great. In Canada you can buy it for the iphone 3g at London Drugs, that ware i bought mine, about $30, it worth it. Maybe alittle over priced, but most of the accesories are about the same anyways.

it was a little tricky to put on, you have to have some patients, and make sure you your device is CLEAN before you try to but it on, and follow the instructions that come with it, pretty straight forward, clean, spray, adjust, then squeegee. You may have to hold the edges a little longer tilll they are tacky again.
If you are getting close to running out of solution, just fill it up with tap water and give it a good shake.
You can remove it if you want, but why would you? once you do, you cant put it back on again.
Also once you have it on, the liquid may make the screen a little blurry at first, this is OK and become clear once everything has dried, which may take about a day. Turn your phone off while you do it, your probably safe turning it on about an hour after your done, giving some time for the liquid to dry a little.
As for the comment above, no its not complete coverage, it fits with in the silver border on the front, but still provides great protection against scratching and other crap that gets on your phone.
  • PaulCheck
Thanks for the invisibleshield review. I took my chances and bought one. I love it. It protects my phone and doesnt add the bulk. My only compaint was how hard the product is to find in Canada. I found a site called www.clearshields.ca. I ordered it online and had it at my house within days. I have recently ordered a few more for my ipod and digital camera.

I reccomend this product to anyone!
  • xxmulcherxx
