Just Mobile Xtand Go For iPhone

With the summer coming up fast and the nice weather finally coming out to play (at least in Vancouver…sort of), Canadian roads are finally becoming clear. As such, I have taken to the car and road more often as my primary mode of transportation, and of course my iPhone 3GS comes with me.

However, as any driver can admit, the iPhone and the car don’t always play nice together. Do you leave the iPhone in the cup holder? On the passenger seat? Hold it?!

Fear not! For I have recently found a solution called the Xtand Go from Just Mobile. You may remember Just Mobile as the makers of the fantastic iPhone stand “Xtand”.

Xtand Go from Just Mobile

The Xtand Go has become my new car companion, joining the ranks of my iPhone, my Bluetooth headset, and on occasion, my iPad.

The Xtand Go is an in-car iPhone 3G/3GS mount that attaches itself to the vehicle windshield or dashboard. Normally I am rather skeptical about car mounts because I always feel that at any moment the mount will just detach and destroy my iPhone. That fear is in large part why I avoid most mounts.

Design

However, with the Xtand Go, I found my fear of the mount falling to not be as present, mostly because when the mount attaches to the windshield or the dashboard, it really grips. Once secured, the entire mount feels very solid and taking a few hard turns proved successful in not having the mount fall off the dash or windshield.

Just Mobile’s previous iPhone stand, the Xtand, came in an all aluminum body. That design has been largely dropped for the Xtand Go and instead, the mount is made from a matte black plastic. The X-frame is also plastic and while I preferred the aluminum frame prior with the rubber grips, the corners of this X-frame are quite deep and hold the iPhone tightly.

Setup

To get the mount working perfectly, you first attach the X-shaped cradle to the joint and then attach the joint to the suction cup. Once the mount is placed on a surface, you turn the base (which is a large screw) to pressurize the mount.

The Xtand Go is also surprisingly flexible considering its small size. The mount features a unique rotating and pivoting joint that connects the cradle and suction cup and the joint extends the iPhone approximately 1.5 to 2.5-inches from the suction cup, enabling a 360-degree swivel.

The mount can be rotated vertically or horizontally at a variety of angles and provides full access to the dock connector, silent switch, and volume controls. The flexible mounting system provides a ton of benefit, especially if you want to use your iPhone as an in-car GPS solution.

Versatile

Car talk aside, the small size of the Xtand Go also makes this mount a great desk companion. Using the suction cup, the mount can be secured to a variety of surfaces, giving users both a car mount and desktop stand.

The Xtand Go also includes three flat surface attachment adhesives. These adhesives allow users to attach their iPhone to the mount but without having to take off an iPhone case (if there is one). In other words, you can have an iPhone case with your iPhone and still successfully use this mount.

Of course you have to attach the adhesive part to the back of the case, which could ruin the case, but you at least have the flexibility of using your case with the mount.

Xtand Go

If you are in the market for short windshield/dashboard mount, definitely consider the Xtand Go. Its versatility in being able to be used in numerous scenarios, its small size, and 360-degree flexibility give it a great appeal as a general iPhone 3G/3GS stand and in-car solution.

The Xtand Go is available for about $40.00CDN from numerous resellers in Canada, so check out the Just Mobile Xtand Go product page for local resellers.
