ZAGG invisibleSHIELD iPhone 3G Revised & Improved

Most people out there choose a variety of ways to protect their iPhones. Some like silicone cases, some like leather cases, and some like protective-film cases. So far I’ve reviewed BestSkinsEver, BodyGuardz, PhantomSkinz, Case Mate Clear Armor, and ZAGG’s invisibleSHIELD. I can’t tell you what is the “best” as everyone has their own personal tastes. However, the one and only film I’ve had on my first gen iPhone and iPhone 3G is the invisibleSHIELD.

Just recently ZAGG has revised and improved the back piece of their invisibleSHIELD. In particular they improved the corner pieces for a better fit and added separate top and bottom bezel pieces. They sent me their new improved back piece for review and I installed it last night. It is is much better than their previous versions!

For starters, the back corners have changed to a different design. On the old design, there was too much “plastic” in the corners which would result in tiny “pimples” being raised in the corners. These little pimples would be tiny but if you kept your iPhone in your pocket, the lint accumulation would make it grow bigger. With the new design, there are now cutouts to eliminate this problem altogether. The removal of some plastic will now decrease the chances of the shield getting caught or stuck when in your pocket and peeling.

Check out the following pics to see the changed design:

The new design is now shipping. Take a good look at my pictures above and make your own decision. It’s been three days since I’ve had the revised invisibleSHIELD installed and there are NO signs of any raised edges! I’m a happy camper.

Some people don’t like these plastic film protectors because it’s hard to install. Honestly though, it’s the best way to protect your iPhone 3G from scratches without hiding its beauty. The secret is in the install. You gotta have patience, patience, and patience. Make sure to overspray during the install and reapply if you mess up. Check out my invisibleSHIELD install video tutorials: part 1 and part 2.

Well, I had one on my from an HTS and I liked it. Bought the 1st version for my 3G and the back sucked. So when I saw this, I sent a note to ZAGG and they will send me a new one, 4$ later.
Not bad as a customer service!

But I have to agree, the back piece is not the easiest to put on.

Guys, if you listen to all th erecommendations here, you’d have 10 cases on your 3G. Make your own mind please…

LOL @ all the critics! My guess is lack of patience and not following instructions properly. Never, ever take one persons opinion as gold people. Do your own research and make YOUR OWN decision. If the first version doesn’t work for you, take it up with Zagg, they have excellent customer service IF you respect them as people and not “lose it” on them. I’ll be phoning today to see if the shields I received last week are the newer ones. If not, I’ll have them replaces. I won’t go “blaming” iPhone Fan for my decision to purchase these!!! :-D

I have the previous version of the shield and I must say that it does suck just a little bit. The corners do take some time to put on and to tell you the truth, I gave up and left it looking ugly. I got my gf another shield but it was the newer version and she put it on like it was nothing. Definitely looks better then mine and less work on the install. I’m going to call ZAGG and give the new revised one a try and if it doesn’t work out, I’ll find another alternative.

Theres no point in giving iphonefan a hard time, he didn’t manufacture the shield, he is just giving his opinion and review about it. If you decided to get the IS solely on his opinion, then its really is your fault for not researching more. Although he obviously has skilled fingers that I don’t have.

    Hi,

I have got zagg invisiblesheild privately from somebody i know.
I have applied it on my 3g 16gb black one and sadly the corners does not look good.
I am not sure how to take off the old one? i just dont want to try pulling it off just like that unless there is a specific way recommended to do that.

I read in the forum you guys discussing about the new zagg invisibleshield with better cuts for corner fitting. Do you think zagg company will be willing to send me one? since i bought my previous invisibleshielf privately?

    Any suggestion?
    I will appreciate that.

Invisible Shield simply sucks. Even the revised version.
First of all due to the change of the design it now covers less.
Second the glue behind the film has changed and it is not now possible to soak it and move it. When you put it on, it’s there to stay, no tilting. Which again makes it impossible to install, and ridiculous to use.

can you tell the difference between old and new versions of the IS by the package?
e.g. part number, or other indication?

I notice at least one local retailer (London Drugs) is now carrying the IS for iPhone 3G. but I wonder which version it is?

My wife presented me with a iPhone for Christmas, and I was thrilled! I got one of these protectors for the front of my iPhone. I must say, it took three attempts at applying it, but after the third attempt, this protector really “shines.” People don’t even know I have a protector applied to the screen when I show them, and it’s very durable. I am impressed. By the way, the iPhone rocks! It’s so addicting!

Just received IS for 3G from Amazon. The package came complete with one exception, the spray top was loose and the bottle empty! I’m considering sending it back, but wonder if I can use another liquid instead (i.e. water)??? I don’t want to return and wait again another 2-3 weeks for shipment that may have same results. Any thoughts? Soapy water? Alcohol/water? anyone?

Exercise in frustration in putting it on. Went through the whole bottle of spray trying to get this thing on. Sticks like glue no matter how much I sprayed. Impossible to adjust. Next to impossible to get the bubbles out and get it on without finger prints. Everything sticks, except the corners. Returning this P.O.S. immediately. Too rubberyon the front makes multi-touch incredibly difficult to use.

The install is actually tough for me, so I just go to the mall to the ZAGG booth and the nice girl does a perfect install replaces my worn out shield within 20 min. I even get a cool velvet ZAGG pouch every time for 7$ only.
