iPhone Firmware 2.0.2 Released on iTunes

by Gary on August 18th, 2008

Looks like the folks at Cupertino are at it again with their firmware updates. iPhone firmware version 2.0.2 was released a couple hours ago and can now be downloaded via iTunes or straight from Apple’s servers.

It’s funny how the firmware update is released just as I happened to jailbreak my iPhone 3G on the weekend. Anyways this release fixes some “minor bugs”, which essentially means that there are no new features but might make your iPhone run a bit more smoothly. Plug in your iPhone 3G into iTunes and update away!

As for the jailbroken crowd, expect the WinPwn/Pwnage Tool to be updated fairly soon! I am not going to update just yet because I will lose my jailbreak status. I am happy with the phone at the moment but I would like to update as well. There has been debates about whether or not jailbroken phones can one-click update. I’m sure you can and once WinPwn is updated I just might do that to test it out!

Im gonna wait a bit longer until the dev team can get a full version of the pwnage tool released for 2.0.2, although I do trust the BETA lol

I had the same problem at first, most of my apps no longer worked. Then I figured, this thing is really just a computer, so...reboot! Turned it off, then turned it back on, now all my apps work fine. The more I play with this thing, the less difference I see between Apple and Microsoft Windows!!!!!!

My phone's applications close within 3 seconds of opening now

I tried to update last night but itunes crashed doing the backup. It just hangs. I restarted my pc and was able to sync my iphone but when I tried to upgrade it popped up an error code saying the phone was disconected - when it wasn't. How do I get it to backup correctly and upgrade right?

Oh... and is it too much to ask apple to make safari flash enabled?

i had to restore my 3G iphone twice in over the last 3 days. i jailbroke using pwnage. I think I'll wait a long while after the jailbreak for 2.0.2 is available. it seems like there are serious stability issues with the jailbreak process over the long term.

From what I have seen so far this morning, my iPhone is a bit faster. My contacts app loads 100 times faster then it used too! Keyboard still lags sometimes though. Out of the few times i've SMS'd this morning, it's only lagged through one of them. Happy with this update, but still room for improvement Apple.

YES everything feels a lot snappier. No contact lag, gps has improved for me as well. And since I've never had the 3G reception issue (5 full bars where I live) I couldn't be happier!

It does seem a bit faster, but will it stop Safari crashing? And please can we have a few camera features next time, Mr Jobs? Like a timer, and maybe some h.264 video recording...? Ah, whatever, my 3G rocks.

The update cleared my keyboard/menu lag completely. 110% gone.

Hope to read good things about the update. I'm out camping and won't be able to test it out for myself till Friday afternoon. So bring on the reveiws.
