WinPwn 2.5 Beta 1 Ready for Download

Share:

The WinPwn Team has been busy updating WinPwn and just released the latest WinPwn 2.5 Beta. As you may recall, I used WinPwn to update my first gen iPhone from 1.1.4 to 2.0.1 and also jailbreak my iPhone 3G on 2.0.1. WinPwn creates a custom firmware that you install on your iPhone and is for Windows users only. If you’re a Mac user, the equivalent is the Pwnage Tool.

What New in the 2.5 Beta:
– QuickPwn Support for 2.0/2.0.1/2.0.2
– Root partition resize support
– Installer support
– Basic / Expert modes
– Wizard style interface
– Automatic updater
– Support for WinXP and Vista 32/64bit.

Click here to download WinPwn 2.5 Beta

A few side notes: make sure you uninstall previous versions of WinPwn before installing this version. Also make sure you have iTunes 7.7 installed. AND…since this is a beta version…use at your own risk! I will try to test this version out in the near future. Going to see how others are dealing with it first just to be on the safe side. I will most likely test out WinPwn by updating and jailbreaking my first gen iPhone that’s on 2.0.1 at the moment!

Cool, read about this on a few other forum sites. If any gives it a shot, post how it works out 😉

I’m SURE this has been discussed before but I can’t find answers to these questions
    1) Are there any pros/cons to using QuickPwn vs WinPwn?
    2) When apple releases another update, what are the correct steps to upgrade when using a Jailbroken phone? Do you just do the update through iTunes, or do your have to “un-Jailbreak” first?

2.5 works flawlessly….Nice GUI. You must choose expert settings to resize your partition ( I did 2 gigs). I think to new GUI helps relax noobs cause everything is presented nicely. It sort of nerve wracking watching a hack and slash looking app do funky things to your baby. Anyhow, it works good!!!!

I jailbroken my 2.02 iPhone 3g using quickpwn thru winpwn and I want to un-jailbreak it and jailbreak it again using custom fw. Wat do I do? Just restore it and jailbreak again?
And also, I have a same question as Dave who posted above…. Any cons and pros using quickpwn and winpwn?

  • 1. I would say the time required to restore with a custom firmware with WinPwn vs the 15 mins of QuickPwn. With QuickPwn you don’t need to restore…so you could essentially just upgrade via iTunes to 2.0.2 and jailbreak easily.

    2. When that time comes, I would assume QuickPwn, WinPwn, Pwnage Tool will all be updated. As for the process we don’t know yet until they take a good look at the new firmware.

Mine did this too. I had to go into my screen properties and make the default font smaller. It then had to reboot and then I was able to see the whole screen in WinPwn!

if you want to unlock, jailbreak and leave it at 1.1.4 then use ziphone. SO much easier and it does it all for you and the only thing you have to do is click a button and it does the east. if you want to upgrade then you just download the firmware(iphone fan has a post with links) and use winpwn.

Just tried it, didn’t seem to do anything, so I tried again with the custom boot and restore screens… nothing… it doesn’t appear to have done anything at all.

How do I use iTunes to upload the custom firmware, perhaps that is my issue?

  • KnightFire

Answering my own post… hold down the shift key and select the custom firmware.

i’ve upgraded to 2.02 on my first gen iphone using the program. It is a little buggy, but it took a few tries with different settings to make it work. I had to use the expert mode and set the partition to 900mb, then it worked like a charm.

I have an iphone 3g through rogers. I have downloaded winpwn 2.5 Beta and the necessary firmware. Everything seems to be working fine until i put my phone into dfu mode. It says “congratulations u have successfully entered DFU mode. Please wait until your iphone is being prepared to accept custom ipsws…” At this point, my phone seems to crash and a bright white screen appears…simultaneously, wimpwn seems to crash and an error from vista comes up and says that winpwn is not working. The winpwn screen is frozen on the message mentioned above. Please note, i had itunes 8.0 installed but then i downgraded to 7.7.0.43 in order to run the jailbreak. My iphone is version 2.0.2. I would really appreciated it if someone could help…i’ve tried uninstalling winpwn and re-installing again…didn’t do anything. Any suggesstions?

  • Hmm…hard to tell what the error is, could be Vista or even the previous upgrade to iTunes8. So does the iPhone work now? Try a full 2.0.2 restore and start again.

YES, i’m getting the EXACT same problem, EVERYTIME
enters DFU mode, …advanced console says
    “DFU mode
    DFU mode
then Recovery mode”, and promptly crashes in vista

    i downloaded itunes8 as well, haven’t tried downgrading;

i am going to try this on an xp machine with 7.7 to rule it out.

if anyone has found a solution, please reply

Ok Im new and sorry I didnt post a reply when I figured out a way to by pass winpwn and hack the Iphone 2.0.2 ok its actually really easy here we go..

1st. Open winpwn 2.5 beta follow the steps and create ur custom ipsw file…. STOP AFTER THAT

2nd. (Now this is where you all have been having trouble going into recovery mode and crashing)
Now what you wanna do is get out of the program and cancel going into recovery mode you already have the custom file made just how you like it and need it

    3rd. Download this file
    http://www.zshare.net/download/18681744057a2ce6/
Its the qucikpwn 2.1 it works on the 2.0.2 go through the process and find your normal ipsw restore that you have on ur computer and go through the rest of the steps and make sure you put a check mark on the (Unlock) option then go through with the recovery mode like normal

4th. Now go to I tunes 7 which you should already have since you probly have followed the other instructions and hold the (Shift) key and click on the restore and now you should be able to restore ur custom ver of ur Iphone’s ipsw

Tip: If ur looking to upgrade to the 2.1 just dowload ur Iphone ipsw go into Itunes and hold (Shift) and click UPDATE then find the ipsw file you downloaded and let the phone update, then run the quickpwn again and follow all the steps and click the unlock and do the recovery mode and restart and ur DONE you have a unlocked Jailbroken Iphone in which you can put any SIM card you like, and if ur like me and using Tmobile and cant connect to the net with Iphone go the network settings and enter the cellular data network and change the APN to epc.tmobile.com Username and Password should be left blank and now you should be able to get on the internet

If you’re using an iPhone, you must download iPhone 2.1 firmware using the below link:
    http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite….6_Restore.ipsw

If you’re using an iPhone 3G, download iPhone 3G 2.1 firmware using the below link:
