Apple Planning ‘Media-Related’ Event this Month in New York City [Update]

Update 2: TechCrunch reports the event will focus on publishing and iBooks:

According to the source the event will not involve any hardware at all and instead will focus on publishing and eBooks (sold through Apple’s iBooks platform) rather than iAds. Attendance will also be more publishing industry-oriented than consumer-focused.

The event will unveil improvements to the iBooks platform, according to the same source, and is not “major.”

Update 1: The ever-connected Jim Dalrymple from The Loop has agreed this event is taking place, adding further weight to the story.

Apple is planning a media-related event to be held at the end of this month according to Kara Swisher from AllThingsD:

According to sources close to the situation, Apple is planning an important — but not large-scale — event to be held in New York at the end of this month that will focus on a media-related announcement.

What could be in store for this event? The iPad 3 and rumoured iTV has been ruled out as unlikely, but since Apple’s Eddy Cue is involved, it could be some sort of announcement in regards to advertising or publishing:

That leaves some kind of advertising or even publishing announcement, which might be the case, since Apple SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue is reportedly involved.

Previous rumours have been reported that Apple has been in talks with media companies to discuss their TV plans. The last time Apple was involved in New York City was to unveil the iPad-only news publication, The Daily, part of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
