BEWARE ROGERS RIPOFF ROAMING RATES

I have a non-jailbreaked 1st gen iPhone. When I go to Canada, I get charged $0.79/min voice roaming, $0.50/SMS AND $0.015 / KB for web access. It's very easy to run up huge charges. Not clear how much of this is AT&T and how much is Rogers, but it's my guess that ol' Ted thinks he needs to buy more cars, houses, pools, planes, etc.

Hope someone from Rogers reads this-You just lost your chance to take me away from Bell. With 2 months left on my incredibly low monthly-yet-feature packed plan, today I renewed for another 3 years after looking at your iPhone rates. I was ready to pay the $80/mth if the plan was like AT&T's plan, which is more than double my current rate plan(Aprox $30/mth, no data but Call ID, Voicemail, 200 daytime minutes, unlimited evenings and weekends). Instead I've decided to stick with my current plan for another 3 years, by which time I will likely see a much better 4th or 5th gen iPhone, more carrier competition in the GSM market(ergo a another Canadian GSM carrier with the iPhone), and a real plan that makes sense. Your loss Rogers.

Matt: The email is indeed true. If you want I can forward you the original email and you can see for yourself. Plus, I called the contact number and left a voicemail--the company is legit. ;)

What I want to know is can I get an iPhone without a data plan? Yeah, I know that it's better with a data plan, but 90% of my time is spent within wi-fi access (at least for the next 6 months or so), so I want to know if I can get an iPhone and sign up for the data plan later.
There's a bit on the Rogers web site about "If you subscribe to a plan with no data included..." but I don't know if this applies to new customers or to customers who are upgrading. Anyone have any ideas?

<blockquote cite="nationwide long distance and roaming">

Nationwide... We're not a part of their nation, so no, it doesn't include us, unfortunately.

If Rogers doesn't make a fast turn-around, they're losing me as a customer. That means, July 12th.
