BREAKING: iPhone Firmware 3.0.1 Released

As expected, Apple has released iPhone Firmware 3.0.1 (7A400) which patches the SMS vulnerability that has been getting a lot of news lately.

The firmware update weighs in at 280MB and is available now through iTunes for the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Remember to have the latest version of iTunes (8.2.1) installed.

3.0.1

Jailbroken/Unlocked iPhones

If you have a jailbroken and/or unlocked iPhone, you may still update to 3.0.1 and still have the ability to both jailbreak and unlock your device.

You may complete the update in iTunes to firmware 3.0.1 and then re-use redsn0w 0.8 to jailbreak your iPhone. Note however that when you run redsn0w 0.8, point redsn0w to the 3.0 firmware (make sure you have the right one for your device) instead of the 3.0.1 firmware when prompted for the firmware file.

After the jailbreak, you can still use ultrasn0w 0.9 to unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS (iPhone 2G users, your unlock is within redsn0w).

Hi
I have one of the early 3GS iphones with Rogers which so far i have not jailbroken or unlocked.
i have updated via Itunes to 3.01 which i gather is ok. I am still using Itunes 8.21
I have the files mentioned above eg redsnow 0.8 and the CORRECT 3.0 hardware file downloaded with firefox
Can I still jailbreak with Redsnow 0.8 and unlock with Ultrasnow even though the newest iphone update is 3.12.
I thought i read some where that when I connect to Itunes it wont allow a 3.0 custom restore file to run??
Any help would be appreciated

I have been all over the dev team Blog and can not find a reference to being able to use a prevoius firmware (3.0)
I have found something on the Hackintosh site that suggest itunes wont allow using a previous version and it apparently screwed his iphone??
I am hoping that if I disconnect my internet service and do the work with Itunes 8.21 I may be OK

Can someone please help me! I jail broke my phone and havent updated my software yet to fix the vulnerability. Since my iphone is jail broken do i have to do a full restore before i update so my iphone doesnt get locked????

Watch out for timezone setting change after the upgrade

emails and calendar will be off

you will need to change your setting on the iPhone to turn tezone setting OFF

So I can simply update my iTunes to 8.2.1 and update via iTunes to 3.0.1 and not require to re- jailbreak or unlock?

Or I have to do everything again once I updated to 3.0.1?

Jailbreak using redsn0w but use the 3.0 IPSW file instead of 3.0.1 when redsn0w asks.

So, looks like redsn0w 0.8 will jailbreak OS 3.0.1. No official word yet, but worked for me.

I noticed that as well, but I think it's safer to wait for an "official" notice before making it really mainstream.

It has already been posted in Cydia, under "Updating to 3.0.1", nothing on the Dev Team's blog yet.

Noob question. Will updating to the firmware 3.1 from 3.0 erase my mp3s and what not?

No. All of your media is saved in iTunes. Just be sure to click "Update" in iTunes instead of "Restore".

I'm not jailbroken but i've lost certain basic functionalit. Like copy and paste in mail app and other little qwerks. Does anyone have info on the new bigs in 3.01

Not that I have seen.
I can confirm that is does not break the Mobile Config profile download for tethering
